Not meant to be a Distressor obviously, but it almost looks like a stripped down 500 series Distressor with the AtMod feature from Arousor. Pretty cool:

Sweetwater has it on pre-order for $699. Really not bad at all.

If this thing has the clamping-down power of the Distressor without that ugly, smeary, distorted box tone, this will become a classic.
I'm just wildly speculating, of course.
The distortion figures are below. I'm hoping the 15% THD is due to the saturation mode.
Distortion – between .0035% and 15% at 1KHz, depending on mode and settings.

I don’t really either.
It’s ok in my view but didn’t hold up that well when I compared it to hardware Distressors. I know it’s not a full on Distressor emulation. But I mean in general tone and liveliness. It sounded flatter to me, to be cliche, more like a plug-in. The Slate and UAD Distressor plug-ins also kinda had some of that, but less than Arousor.
All totally subjective of course.

The Arousor plug sounds like a polynomial wave shaping function on the back end of a standard digital compressor.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone has had a chance to hear one of these in person. There's no video or audio anywhere I can find. Curious to hear opinions on the Eli pump If I remember correctly, Empirical Labs stated in their Instagram that they plan on shipping in mid September. The original release date was May. One weird thing is that Empirical themselves said that the PUMP is a VCA compressor, as opposed to the Distressor, which is a FET. However, the Distressor IS a VCA device, according to people who have studied the circuit. That's confusing. Also, Empirical has also said that the compression circuit is basically from the Distressor. I don't know what to believe anymore. |
