I recently bought a re-16 that had been in it's case where the foam deteriorated badly and really attacked the mic. Anyone got tips tricks for cleaning one up?

I'd suggest isopropyl alcohol on a soft rag and patience.

Thanks Tim. It seems a little bass shy too. Probably gooped into the capsule? Any disassembly tips or thing to watch out for? Thanks again. (Big admirer of your work.)

I've refurbished 4x RE11 and 2x RE18. You might still be able to pay too much for pieces of cut foam from EV....or just roll your own. The foam reminded me of the stuff in aquarium bubble/air filters.

Sounds like you’re pretty handy. If it becomes too much, I can recommend Cole Suddarth of “Cole’s Vintage Picks” in Nashville. He reformed and cleaned up my RE55s and RE15s. colepicksvintage@gmail.com
