Never heard of this dude before. He seems like the genuine deal based on what I saw. Seems like the local Music City folks have probably known about this guy for a while.
(Sorry if this is hopelessly out of touch, I don't really follow the mainstream country scene too much. Not even sure if this is mainstream.)

When I was in Nashville two weeks ago he was slated to be at the Grand Ole Opry soon. I had never heard of him either.

Did a little more listening/research today. Kind sounds like a country kid who made his mark in the Post-Malone genre bending vein but really just wanted to be a country singer. Either way, it's nice to see someone genuinely happy to be recognized.
Not sure I'm a fan of most of his stuff but the songs he won for are interesting. Odd melodies in some of them. Also, he really gets a lot of mileage out of being the dude who is a Christian but also has severe substance abuse problems. There's a niche for everything I suppose.

He mostly was a rapper. I like the couple of hits he’s had.
