what’s crazy it’s that I was literally just asking for the restocking and shipping cost so I could budget for it…and he still said no! Lol. Anyway, not worth my time or mental energy to make a fuss. I’m not even upset. Just thought it was weird. Yeah seems funny to me too and certainly hasn't been my experience dealing with sweetwater. Quite the opposite really which makes me think it was just the guy you were trying to deal with. Anyway! Sonic Circus is an amphion dealer... solid crew there. Very reputable. soniccircus.com/product-category/recording/monitors?filter_product_brand=amphion-monitors&query_type_product_brand=or Alto isn't that far from me, about an hour & change one way. Maybe one of these days I should do a road trip & check 'em out... While I have a killer guitar shop about 15 minutes away even being in metro NY/NJ there's not much for "professional" audio sales & supplies... lots of places to buy a $200 presonus interface or SM7 but beyond that? Its a fucking desert so I get it. So while the local options have dried up more & more of the moose bucks are going to the online retailers... mostly because its the only real option. To me most of 'em are catalog shops where its kind of an impersonal transaction. And that's fine sometimes... but other times I put a high value on someone's opinion. Be it "my dude" at a dealer or people like you on this forum. If I can get both of those? Good dealer & good friend opinions on something big I can't really demo? Then I'm probably in a good spot.

Late to all of this but isn’t the “problem” with Sweetwater only when they don’t stock the item normally and have to special order it? I have had no issues returning anything that was listed as “in stock”.

Alto is managed by guys who seriously love gear and music, and they know what they're doing. It's always my first go-to if I need something.

I think I'm a pretty chill and reasonable guy overall. I think it's actually kind of hard to piss me off, because I'm always trying to authentically understand the other party's position and motivation. I think a lot rides on who your particular "sales engineer" is. I've tried to switch several times, but they won't let me. Life's too short to worry about it. At least here in the USA, there are a lot of other choices of retailers.

Call Jeff explain you just don’t mesh with your sales guy and are buying elsewhere because life’s to short, again mention my name. You will have a new sales guy in 5 min! Why? Because life is to short if your not buying from this guy then you’re not buying from SW! It’s not like a new guy would be taking away business from your current guy , your new rep would be generating new business. Nobody likes losing a client, but here is the thing, if I lost you and you were not buying, as a sales geek it might be good for me to! Say what? Look if your calling and are not buying, that call time can be used on someone who is buying and besides the call time your also saving me even more time apologizing to others who are buying. If I’m not closing you I’m not losing anything, the only account I ever was less sad to lose than one wh wasn’t buying was an institutional that didn’t pay on time.

Man I looked everywhere for an ATC and Amphion dealer but nothing, just a few HiFi stores that carry their (Amphion) consumer series speakers but not their pro line. Even looked at Seattle and didn’t find much. I’m not sure if he knows it, but my SW rep just lost my biz for ever. Not that I buy much from them in the last 4-5 years. Most of my purchases are used or high end outboard from others. Alto Music on the other hand were easily able to give me a shipping quote and told me I could purchase a return shipping label through them to take advantage of their bulk shipping discounts. I've had really good experiences with Alto, too. And I know Martin John Butler is an Alto guy. Likewise! Alto are fantastic to deal with. Never had an issue and well-trained helpful staff.

Yeah my rep changes about every 18 months, I don’t buy enough through SW & the powers that be know I have never had a rep smart enough to understand the pricing I can get elsewhere. It’s even noted on my account “ former Audio sales god.”

FWIW, I've had the same Sweetwater rep for 23 years. We've been good for each other. I have received excellent service throughout. I've dealt with several other companies and gotten good service there, too. I've generally been pleased with the service I've received from equipment suppliers across the board, and for that I'm thankful.

I’m on my 4th. No clue why, but man every single one I’ve had is a whack job and tries to get way too personal and I’m not about it. No shit… first call with a new one a few years ago, tried talking to me about his cat. Bro I don’t CARE!!
Just tried to make an order 3 days ago. Immediately get a phone call. I’m on a stage doing a sound check. Send it to voice mail. 3 mins later get a text. “I need to speak to you immediately about one of the items in your order”.
I DON’T WANT TO TALK TO YOU!!!!
I just texted back please just cancel my order.
Hit Amazon, shit is on my doorstep the next morning for free shipping and I didn’t have to deal with somebody trying to sell me bullshit I don’t need.
If Sweetwater would charge $150 a year membership fee, free 2 day shipping on everything, never call me, and use email blasts sparingly, they would have my business. Not sure why that is so hard in 2023…
Meanwhile, my Vk guy is awesome. Win some lose some I guess.

My SW guy would frequently be like, "hey, when I see your order come through online, I'm just going to go ahead and push it on through for you!" like he was doing me a favor or something. I mean, yeah, I already placed the order, I don't see why you need to "push it through," but whatever you need to do man - I just need it by Thursday, guy. My guy also used to brag about all the cars he'd bought and all the success he'd had. It was weird and very off-putting.

My guy also used to brag about all the cars he'd bought and all the success he'd had. It was weird and very off-putting. OK, as this has come up before I’ll explain the whole theory behind assigned sales person again. In theory I you assigned sales god ( an official title you are assigned when you sell a video editing rig to the school for the blind as well as sell the gigantic Technics Mushroom shaped sub woofer.) the theory is that I as your assigned sales geek know your needs, understands what you do, and maybe just maybe we have a plan. See there is nothing worse than Jon another sales person who really doesn’t know say live sound convincing you that even though your running 4 8 ohm subs preside that plan we had for you to buy a nice Crown that will in fact drive .0001 ohms the fact that we have a couple of B- stock Mackie’s that say they can drive 2 ohms ( well at 1KHZ) better deal for you. Now I will say this Jon is not stupid, he actually is pretty damn smart, except when it comes to speakers and amps. Forget, that I have worked this deal out with your boss, your electrician, you will never pop another breaker or Shut down the sub amp mid performance again. Except I’m in the hospital and Jon thinks you should buy a Mackie ( yes Michael Cleary Jon is who you think he is and the story is true and the Mackie Blew smoke in 6 months). In theory I your sales weasle should have a better than average understanding of your specialty but reality bites and Mark umm I only learned video because, well I like money and let’s face it Im such a F-king geek. Now the companies that have assigned sales staff are really set up for buisness to buisness sales, it’s where the money is and you should like it because it means your getting better prices on SM57 because I just sold 50 of them to Clair Brothers, I pulled off that Genelec drop ship for you because they got the PO for the station group I convinced to put Genelec in 12 stations. I should according to the rules speak to you once a year, well I’m only going to call you out of the blue to either give you hell about your favorite team losing to a Client or if a bunch of b stock Gefell’s are coming in and I’m going to sell them before they get here. Plus I have a note that I need to suck up a bit because that custom cable you need overnight was on that UPS truck that rolled over and was held as evidence for 3 months ( true story). Being your assigned sales person means I should probably get to know you, it doesn’t mean I’m going to set you up with your wife, take your kid to a Ball Game or that your wife will bring me lunch. Think of it as the inverse of walking into GC and explaining you need a Balanced 1/4 cable, or TT not 1/4! Or try asking the GC dude of the month what the current draw at idle is on a QSC plx3202?

I’m lucky…I really like my Sweetwater rep. 20 years strong lol. The really crazy stuff to me is when places like musicians friend started copying sweetwater’s style. It was like when Microsoft opened up windows stores in shopping malls and they were set up exactly like an Apple Store. Have you guys seen this one? www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRTqYxHe/
