They are so overpriced all the time. It’s like people think they’re real Helios. That whole competition to be Helios is Heliarios. Have you seen the Bristol company website that have owned the rights since 1997 and never made anything? Visit companies house or Helios Electronics Limited/Caz limited if you’re bored. Jim has to license the name. His Olympic modules are the best I’ve ever heard and he’s sold out because I rather raved about them on the purple people site.

I still have all the audio files (somewhere?) for the Helios shootout we did a number of years ago at my place...

That 200 page thread/ argument makes for a great History of Helios novel. 😂 I think a lot of them are pretty fugly. No denying they captured some great records though.

Funny, I used the UAD Helios plug-in on a test track this week, along with their 176 plug. It was colored like crazy, but I really like it. Does any company like Stam or Audioscape make a clone?

Isn’t the Wunder Audio stuff based on Helios designs? I think one of the Iron Age pres is Helios inspired, though I’m not sure which one.

The best and only Olympic studio 1 console clone is Jim Dowlers Olympic Germanium 65 modules which the Brit classics were made on. The Stones, Hendrix etc.

The price of that Olympic mic pre is actually pretty reasonable all things considered. Now it's on my radar too :-)

Wunder mic pres/EQs are based on a console called The Allotrope that was custom built for JPJ. I think the original was similar to a Helios, but definitely its own beast. There was a really cool article I read years back that detailed the whole history of that console. Wish I could find it.

Quoted from vintage king site “In 1971, Led Zeppelin bass and keyboard player John Paul Jones ordered a one-of-a-kind custom console, ‘The Allotrope’. Decades later, Wunder Audio has spent years in R&D resulting in dozens of improvements to the original design. The result is the Wunderbar, the PEQ2, as well as the 500 Series modules, the Cobalt Pre and the Allotrope EQ.”
