I've had the Bomblet on demo and own the 017 Tube. I made some quick recordings straight up and with the capsules swapped. Curious to know if you hear a difference, and if so what you like. Keeping it blind for the moment so as not to sway anyone. - Takes were: 017 Tube, Bomblet, 017 T w/Bomblet Cap, Bomblet w/017 Cap (files are not necessarily in that order). - All single takes as I only have one Coil CA-70s. - Coil at -6 Input, 0 Low, 12:00 NF. - No compression, low cut, or EQ. - Mix is entire song with a bit of Seventh Heaven Sun Plate C; I did not do any vocal-to-track mixing, just set all the vocals the same level and let it ride. - Vocal only are raw, and only the first verse. - 44.1 MP3 Here's the link: www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/2cy8urw8ajw3q58pwqbag/h?dl=0&rlkey=ugibheqgn0hwmk5a52mr98szq

Downloaded. Now I just need to remember to load and listen at the studio.
I didn't realize they were modular mics.

The threads align (you have to be really careful how you get them started) but the caps don't line up with the logos when swapped. However, in my conversations with Scotty @ Soyuz he liked it so much he's looking into the possibility of offering a limited edition 017 with the Bomblet cap.

I really like Mic 1 and 4. Only listening on my computer so far. Will try to listen in the studio later. Looking forward to seeing the key.

On my phone… I agree, most definitely 2&4. 1&3 mids are too hard for me.

As always beautiful voice and singing. Will listen again later tonight. Chris

I'm guessing this post isn't going to see many more hits/comments...and I always dislike having to wait a long time for reveals on blind shootouts. That being said, here you go.
Mic 1 = 017 capsule on the Bomblet body Mic 2 = Bomblet capsule on the 017 Tube body Mic 3 = Bomblet Mic 4 = 017 Tube
Mic 1 = 1 vote Mic 2 = 2 votes Mic 3 = 2 votes Mic 4 = 5 votes

So it's the 0-17 tube that wins the day! It's a great mic for sure. I had one for a week, and had the 0-17 FET for years. They're the real deal.

I guess I really like that 0-17 capsule, since I called out both the configurations using it.

Yep Martin, I guess that softness comes from the tube body and that’s what gives it its uniqueness. I still so wish I had a pair for piano.
teejay, next, you now need a 017 FET to compare. I bet I’d find that solid-state more refined. The mids will probably be forward (something I really enjoy on vocals and acoustic guitar), like the Bomblet body, but not hard (bad to my ears) like that.

The 0-17 FET sounds almost the same as the 0-17 tube. The tube is just a little smoother. As an example, the guitars and vocals are all 0-17 FET here.

Yes. That sounds absolutely great. On all vocal and acoustic guitar samples I’ve heard, I’ve always seemed to have liked the FET better, but on piano, the Tube takes it for me.

I liked 3 & 4. I checked them blind but it looks like Soyuz got it right first time for me. 2 was not bad though. I know I'm gonna look like one of those annoying guys that pitch in after the event that we always get on our shootouts but I swear I didn't cheat.

Yes. Being with the Tube/Circuit really helps the Bomblet capsule. I'd like to hear that Combo on Female vocals. My sense is it'd be killer. Get a great singer, like Vincent's Emily! Chris

Mic 1: A tiny but murky and sibilant. How both could happen at the same time is a mystery! Mic 2: not murky but the whisky sibilance is worse. Mic 3: little de-essing and it's a perfect mic for your voice, my overall choice but . . . Mic 4: Finished vocal sound except it's a tiny bit heavy in the center mids but the would be my choice!
3 or 4 would work very well. And now I see the reveal chart!!

Mic 2: not murky but the whisky sibilance is worse. I'm quite familiar with whiskey slurring, but sibilance has never been a problem ...as far as I know.
