Just looking for something small to give me a different perspective from my Amphions. Worth buying anything in the $500 range?

I honestly love my KRK rokit 5s. Kinda hyped bit like a car stereo, specially the lows but they work & translate like mad for me. Could & have mixed entirely on them no problem no surprises.
Bought them several years ago as a travel set & to have something that'd be more relatable for artists coming through, something more like what they have in their home studio. Totally exceeded expectations.

I got a set of LSR305’s off ebay for something under $200 shipped. They don’t sound like my 705P’s but there are no surprises between them either.

I love my Auratones - makes mixing less tiring. Whenever I need a break from analytical listening, flick over to them. Whenever I need to edit / or tidy up stuff - move to the Auratones. I find it very exhausting listening to everything on bigger monitors.

Also great for riding fader levels - vocals, fills, etc.

The powered Avantones also have an added advantage if you or another singer doesn't like to use headphone they can be use a monitor...singing over a speaker at low volume can sometimes really help pitch. Headphones are weird.

Great little speakers and cheap!

Editing / cleaning up / fades / exporting - anything where I don't need to be in the center of my main monitors in frequency analysis mode.
When editing, I also don't need a stereo image - so this gives my brain a rest for a while.
I also have my Auratones off to the side, which gives me a fresh perspective (highly recommended). I use a pair of Auratones so I still get L & R, and switch to mono from my Grace monitor controller.
My mains are 90% PSIA21m for punchy great transient response / and the rest of the time Dutch & Dutch 8c for pure detail.
I also have a pair of PSIA17m's in my edit room, where I can patch them in via my patchbay.
Going into a different room to listen to the mix on different monitors also helps keep fatigue at a minimum. Or - I put the music up loud in the control room, and wander into other rooms to get a different perspective. Eat / check emails & texts / take my mind off the audio and listen like a "normal" person.

I think I'll try it. I have a Studer with a single speaker that can be L, R, or Mono and it's off to the side. I do like to use it and listen mono off axis. I've done the turn it up and leave the room things since my first studio job. You really can interpret the mix differently.
