Hi gang, It appears that my sturdy and much abused Shure SE425 in-ear buds may be in the process of biting the dust. I often use them during cleanup (when I really need to hear deep into the audio) or for editing/mixing when the rest of the house is asleep. I've got some excellent open-back Beyers, but I can only wear over-ear for a little while (nerve damage on the nearby carotid artery). So I'm looking for possible replacements.
I absolutely love the Shures--I've had Shures for at least a dozen years. They're unforced and trusty. But I've never liked the way that the cable goes behind the head and over the pinnae. So I'm happy to entertain suggestions. I don't need thumping bass and sizzling cymbals. Just truth. There might not be a better option than what I've been using.
Thanks much for any insights.
Michael

I have the se425 as well. As far as general use earbuds for playing drums and on stage work, they're great. Cables need replacing every few years though.
For mixing, I still contend that the little lowly Panasonic hje125 is great. Never fatiguing, always flat sounding. I've done a few mixes on them that turned out great and I always check all my mixes on them.

Etymotic Research. IIRC, they did invent the IEM. Were just bought by a bigger company but should still be phenomenal.

Truthear: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B7DS1QHZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1I had the Shure 425 and liked them. I liked the Truthear so much better than I sold the Shures. Better low end and less harsh top end. That said, I suspect that IEMs are a very personal thing, based on things like ear canal shape, etc. The Truthears are also easier to insert than the Shures. The Shures were a two-handed wrestling match; these go in pretty quickly and easily. Again, maybe it's based on ear shapes again; no idea. -09

I've known a few people that went with 64 Audio IEM and seem to really like them. Lots of options, especially if you're willing take on a second mortgage. But, hey, in life you usually get what you pay for.
