Until you use it, who knows?
When I had my first album mastered to a real ampex 102 by a real MA, I almost couldn’t believe the good sonic difference: no plug in emulation and I doubt any box will actually replicate that.
So, i think this is aimed at peeps, who haven’t worked with a good tape deck.
Liking the sound is one thing: i liked my ua 102 plug, but I knew it didn't sound anything like the real ampex masters.
Maybe get one from Sweetwater and see or return ?

Maybe get one from Sweetwater and see or return ? Yeah, it would be intriguing to try it and see how it behaves in a session. I am not located in the states, so we'll see if someone I know around here will stock it in the future and lend it for a day or two. Warm in itself is not really in my interest as a brand, but Ampex as a concept is. Therefore the unit just raises some curiosity how it stands as a substitute to one. I don't believe the clones should be expected to sound identical to an original, they seldom do, as it so many times can be hard to nail a consensus of how an original actually should to sound. But they should carry the essence and characteristics of the sound and a be a high quality piece on it's own, and maybe even exceeding the original in use.
