Sang my guts out to this song when it came out! Funny thing is the verse is TWO lines!!! and then straight into the chorus. Bizarre structure which works beautifully. Killer bridge which is kinda like a verse...but not. I wish I had the balls to take two lines to get to the chorus...lol

I have never ever heard this before... this is the most mixed up schizophrenic MPD song I have ever hear. It's like Free started the song, then badfinger took over for a moment, then Andrew Gold jumped in and a Beatles cover band took over for a line... then John Waite and the Babys added a bridge. Then Free came back, and Andrew Gold came back with some crooner buddies of his.
What a totally EFFED up song. And this was popular somewhere?

Written by Eric Carmen and produced by Iovine. I know what you mean about the structure, but that's what I love about it. It's just trying to pound out the hooks one after another stealing unashamedly from whoever!

What a totally EFFED up song. And this was popular somewhere? ...originating from Cleveland, the Raspberries were one of the premier power pop-rock bands in the US during the early 70's...their first album was loaded with catchy melodic and hooky tunes, very much in the same vein as Badfinger...Eric Carmen went on to have a very successful solo career... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberries_%28band%29

I hear some some Roy Orbison influence in his voice/melody in the verse.
Definitely Beatles (Paul) influenced as well.

...Raspberries lead singer/songwriter Eric Carmen's solo debut tune went to #2 on the Billboard charts...it's been covered by many including Celine Dion...

2 lines to the chorus? Maybe that was just ahead of its time. Cut 95% off the intro off this song and then you have a current intro, verse, chorus for the modern listener right? No one has the patience to let a song settle in nowadays. Pretty sure it's a misdemeanor to write a song over 3 minutes. 4 minutes and you're gonna be serving time.

This song is un afraid and hooky as hell, i love the arrangement, it's interesting and still pretty conventional, head verse/chor vers/chor head, standard d part interlude/ head out, it's the raw performance that gives it the dog head twist, probably better than any release that i've heard in the last 14 cookie cutter years imo

I love delving into both strict pop song structure and freeform song structure. They both have their challenges. I love a well crafted pop tune that transitions powerfully and gets it's message across. alot of The Beatles early hits and tunes from that time were sub 2:30!! LOL

True, the Beatles (and I am sure many others) got to the point pretty quick, pretty often. I just recall my early listening years being filled with long intros. These days it seems like if you want a chance to break out, you have to win someone over in the 1st 10 seconds.

Hey, just open with the chorus! "Baby, you're a song you make me wanna roll my windows down, and cruise.." If only crossing the Florida-Georgia line were still a crime... and if only all this stupid could be used for good instead of ee-ville.

'Go All The Way', like a lot of Raspberries tunes, sounds like a medley of song hooks.

I think they (Comedy Central, SNL, et al) should get Dana Carvey to play Eric Carmen in a comedy skit.
