Does anyone make a bass sound library product with just the samples ?
i see ezbass imports audio files, so for $180, you could write a real bass line, import it and demo its various basses to find a sound you prefer in your mix
Or just buy, say a sansamp and try your best to get it right at source or reamp?

These days everything comes with it’s own proprietary plugin and the samples are stored in proprietary sample file formats. The companies started doing it many years ago to prevent the free distribution of their sample libraries when the format was just plain old .wav files.

fwiw, EZbass is pretty darn good. Though I wouldn't rush to suggest it as a replacement for real bass. As good as the samples are, they tend to be a bit *too* uniform...kind of like the 'machine gun drum fill' early days of drum sample replacement. But it'll do the trick in some genres/songs.

About 15 years ago I was about to buy another bass sample library and then I did something completely crazy ….
Instead I bought and actual bass!!
Now I can handle all the but the most difficult bass lines with “real bass” and as a bonus it’s heaps of fun to play.
Highly recommend if you have the time to practice. That said, back then I didn’t have EZ Bass and it is very realistic, especially in a mix.

I have a real bass and play bass !
I just liked the idea of turning wav to midi, then picking a bass sound from ez I liked and mixing it in with the real bass line.
I do this with logic drummer and slate drums, build drummer track first, by song arrangement, have parts follow real bass line so sounds more natural, then i load in slate and copy paste drummer parts, they become midi, and send both to same aux, blend to taste.

I have had some limited success doing this, but most of the time when I’ve tried it, the intonation differences between real and sampled bass end up muddying things up. When the real bass part needs reinforcement, I’ve had better luck laying in a synth, voiced to fill out whatever the bass guitar is lacking. Intonation differences there seem less distracting to my ear.

+1 for Trillian. A lot of useable bass sounds, although I bought it for this patch from Charlie Puth’s “Attention”

I've read Sting used to do this with a real upright bass called "Brian" It does work really well.

The arranging, production and mixing are awesome. The transient releases kill. Everything is just so and musical and ear candy. And the bass patch is sweet too!

+1 for Trillian. A lot of useable bass sounds, although I bought it for this patch from Charlie Puth’s “Attention” It's interesting watching this guy making music as opposed to McCartney pulling "Get Back" out of the ether in that famous Abbey Road clip. The modern guy is hooked on the "sound" of everything - the immediate and apparent veneer of quality as everything is already it's own sound - the song is the sounds - the sounds are the song. I'm not knocking anyone here - I respect all creativity no matter where it comes from - but there's a level of soulfulness and truth and purity I find appealing in watching McCartney strum bass chords and searching for the melody and the vibe - playing it into existence. I try as much as possible to write at a piano, guitar or bass guitar and my voice - I'm very suspicious of polished sounds and DAW's they can be the siren's call to smashing your song against the rocks of sonic illusion.

I think Mac is thinking melodically, feeling the song’s vibe, this seems to be about positing and or experiencing a soundscape and placing sounds in it ?
