So I've got the Burl, Apollo and Ross Martin USB. I clock the Apollo with the Burl via SPDIF...so that's not an issue, but I think I should be able to set up an aggregate device so I don't have to go into sys prefs/sounds and keep switching between the Apollo and the RM. Do I just create it and combine the two interfaces? Then choose aggregate device in sys prefs for the output and the same in pro tools? Then just keep the RM on USB mode?

you need to have word clock and a master slave to define the relationship between the devices and as long as they are linked properly and set tointernal and external; you should be good.

The RM DA doesn't have Word Clock, just SPDIF...I have that connected as well as the USB from the RM to the Mac. The RM has a switch that says "USB" - I assume when that's clicked off and the light is green, it is syncing to the Apollo clock (which is being externally clocked by the Burl). When it's switched to "USB" I assume it's using it's own clock. It definitely sounds better on it's own clock.
My problem is, PT's makes me choose which device to use - either the RM or the Apollo. When I select the RM, I don't have the Apollo's inputs/outputs. When I select the Apollo, I can only hear through the RM when the "USB" switch is off and I assume it's using the Apollo's clock via SPDIF. (BTW, my monitors are always hooked up to the RM)
Can I make an aggregate device with both units? Do I select the RM as the master clock in Audio/Midi settings? That way I can just choose the "Aggregate Device" in PT's and it will be monitoring with the RM in "USB" mode? If that's the case, then is the Burl clocking the AD of the Apollo? I have it connected via WC and have it synced externally in the UAD Console settings...Sorry - just confused.

BTW - the Burl is connected via SPDIF in, so I guess if I'm getting the audio signal "in" then it's coming from the Burl and working fine. It's coming in digitally and skipping the Apollo's converters and using the Burl clock, right?

It's coming in digitally and skipping the Apollo's converters and using the Burl clock, right? I think the burl spdif outputs will be seen as the digital inputs so not certain but once you watch the video and get the i/o recognized as an aggregate you will see all the i/o in your daw and in console and if you are setting up an aggregate i would rename your console channel strips too that will be come global meaning the defauts but then it will be your default session template so say you like 2-3 vox set ups with ua plugs; you can load them in console , same with guitars ect. then just arm and mute the tracks in your daw (pro tools) and record wet or dry and if you insert console recall in your daw then you can link console and your daw too pro tools Xpert also has videos showing how to set up hardware inserts for dedicated OB, which you also have or you can just use your patchbay and or set up default chains for say channels 5-8 using your OB pres and keep 1-4 for unison and don't forget your 4 mono virtual channel or two stereo pairs which you can send from your daw (I/0) to console for ua effects (wet/dry) in console and route back out to your daw have fun with this designing your new workflow; you have the opportunity to set up a varied new default workflow that meets your recording needs and soon it will become second nature to you : my patchbay screwed me up for about 3 months then suddenly it just clicked !

Yeah - the Burl will be seen as SPDIF 1&2. Thanks for the help! Once I get this kid to sleep I'm on it!

If you need any help John I'll be up for a while, I had to do this when I set up my Apollo and Ensemble, it can be a pain, but I've done it some many times I could probably get you through it pretty quick. Shoot me a text it you need to, I'll be up for another hour or two anyways.
