My second-hand WA-67 intermittently makes ocean sounds in cardioid pickup pattern, but not in omni or figure right. When the ocean sounds come on, switching out of cardioid then right back clears the sounds for a while (minutes).
I’ll give it a good soak in dry rice. I’m guessing that may not do the trick, that switching out of cardioid would involve both capsules, and if a contaminated capsule was the problem, the ocean sounds would also be present in omni and figure eight patterns.
Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

No advice, but wishing you good luck. My friend needed a WA-47 repaired recently. He dropped it gently on a rug, but the damage was heavy. He sent it to Chad Kelly to upgrade. All good now.

A seconder for Chad, I have read about his wa47 mod/upgrade: think it good value, plus your mike has a problem. It would come back improved and working perfectly.

Yeah. Send that in to someone that knows that they’re redoing. Chad is a good dude.

Most likely it is a loose connection, dirty switch, dirty pcb, or dirty capsule. You could quickly check that the connections to the capsule are tight and flip the switch back and forth a bunch of times to see if this helps. If you see any dirt or flux on the pcb clean it with some alcohol.

I have to say, I had a WA12 preamp a while back that I purchased second hand. It died a month or two after the purchase. I sent it to Warm for repairs. Not only where they very responsive, the issue actually was simpler than their original estimation and cost me less to repair, because of it. If you want to upgrade it, send it to Chad. If you just want to repair it, you may want to just reach out to Warm.

Bryce is a good guy, but as others have said send it to Chad, not only will it come back sounding better the man will tell you what he can do for x $. He knows the mic and he knows how to maximize your $ with it!

Not yet. It dawned on me that I purchased the microphone from the warm audio piece. Stock shop. Wrote to them and they’re willing to do an RMA for me. They asked me to hit the pattern switch with some Dioxit first, so I’ll give that a try before sending out back for repair. I’ll post here as story develops. In the meantime, I picked up a pair of Mojave MA-300 microphones. Those will fill the U 67 role in my mic locker for now. Holy smokes the MA-300 is a great mic. I’ll be using the pair as drum overheads in a session next week, looking forward to hearing that. I’ve been using a pair of ADK 49T-FET for overheads past few rounds, really liking those too.

I saw you picked those up and I'm curious how the two compare. I imagine the Warm is darker.

The good people at Warm recommended spraying the pattern selector switch with some Deoxit. That did the trick and the WA-67 is back in fighting shape. Sometimes it’s the simple things.
Yeah the Warm is substantially darker than the MA-300. Both sound great and are useful. I’m loving the MA-300s.

Many recommendations to remove the capsule from the area, and NOT spray the stuff either. Good luck.
