I sold my original Drive Master last year, it just wasn’t the right pedal for me. Had it for decades and never totally got along with it.

Just bought a Shredmaster reissue. Excited to get some 90s shoegaze tones with it.

None of those pedals really ever went away... so many other companies make versions of those boxes and, IMO kinda fixed all the flaws of the originals which, for whatever reasons Marshall decided to not do anything about this time. Ok so its a reissue..?
Some of the early reviews I've seen have been kinda mixed and maybe not so favorable... For one thing they kept the crappy footswitch & tone sucking, loaded bypass rather then update to better quality parts and you know, true bypass.
With the BB pedal apparently it still barely makes it to unity gain at output meanwhile everyone else that builds a version... Analogman, JHS blah blah made subtle changes to the output stage so you know, it actually has output & can push an amp.
And that's the rub. Those Marshall boxes were just not popular back in the day. The reputation they have now is kinda based on the reputation & path that all the klone boxes have paved. Klone boxes that improved on the originals.
Like how many people have played an original Guv'nor? Ok now how many have played a JHS angry charlie? Or an MI Crunchbox? Or the MXR version? With the BB pedal, at this point I'd bet the farm Analog Mike has built more KOT's then Marshall ever sold of the OG bluesbreaker.
IMO these coming out now, at $250 street is too late & a little too much coin. YMMV.

Got lucky and snagged a BB from Andertons for like 169 I think. Came today. There’s plenty of volume on tap to push an amp like a clean boost. You definitely have to crank the knobs more than other similar gain pedals, but once you hit that sweet spot…mmm…it’s gaining legendary status for a reason. There are tons of clones at this point, but a chance to grab an “original” was too good to pass up. I wouldn’t pay US prices, but Andertons had them cheaper and in stock when I looked. I don’t really notice any tone suck from the circuit, but I’m not really particular about that kind of stuff. Definitely a keeper here. It’s already strapped on my board!

There are tons of clones at this point, but a chance to grab an “original” was too good to pass up. Cool. That feels like the right price... even $199. Funny thing is I had a BB here decades ago when you recorded that EP at my shop that I don't remember! Pretty sure I bought it on a scavenger hunt with our mutual guitar player friend, remember a stack of 'em at was it NJ guitar & bass in Edison? The old Outlaw guitars? Maybe even scam cash. They were either $49 or $59 I remember that much! Cheaper then a boss pedal. I still have an old Guv'nor here... the second version in the "silver bug" case. That and some others were also blowout purchases... Think I paid $25 or $29 each? Far cry from the $130 price on the box! The silver Guv is ok. Decent enough & gets used at times. Doesn't respond to changes in guitar volume/picking dynamics at all. Very flat. Great EQ though. All the rest of those pedals were pretty terrible. Had a chorus, I think a reverb and certainly the worst tremolo pedal... in the world. All long gone.

I feel like these will be a hit for a year or two, then the buzz will fade away, and then they will become collectors items as well.
