I hear these are hard to repair.
It passes audio but non of the compression values work nor the volumes.
Once I press the gr button it’s just white noise.
Is anyone here skilled on these units ?

If you are anywhere near CA, Jim Williams is a go to tech repair/mod guy.

From what I understand earlier 160 and 162 S used 24 volt VCAs, which are no longer made and were prone to failure. Later units changed to 15V VCA's. If it's 24V VCA's it will need modification to be repairable...and it's pretty costly and time consuming. I believe Studio Electronics rate is around $900 for those units. groupdiy.com/threads/dbx-160sl-documents.55679/That has all the calibration documents.

The 162 is the newer purple units. I have the older blue unit. Hopefully I get it working some day.

There's a phone number listed here... dbxpro.com/support/repairs?geo=usYears ago they offered flat rate service to fix these & just about anything else they ever made & still had parts for... I think it was $89 + shipping. Sound company I worked for years go had a few of those blue 160's... I liked 'em. Don't sound like old VU's but certainly cool.
