I recently built (and rebuilt x10) a guitar amp, and let me tell you despite the rumors, carbon comp resistors in several spots were ABSOLUTELY the key to tone magic. Want to do a couple 1176s but I’m wondering if anyone knows whether cc resistors would make any difference here? In the guitar amp it was all about using them in positions with high dc and superimposed ac…not something I’d imagine exists in an 1176. I’m curious to hear about your experiences and/or any tips to get your 1176 sounding extra sweet. Cheers!

The rule is in the places with the highest DC voltage potential across the resistor, which are directly connected to audio. In tube gear that’s the plate resistors.

Thanks, I’m wondering how much difference (if any) it would make in an 1176 where the voltages are quite low (at least “low” relative to a tube amp).

Definitely less. Hard to say.
