Nice video! I honestly haven’t really used the tape plugs that much…but that’s a good habit to keep them at unity gain. I really haven’t paid that much attention to it in the past…usually try and shoot for around -6 when tracking and then use volume faders to drive into a tape or console on the bus - and just adjust with the summing knobs. But this is def a more scientific approach. Give it a try how it goes for you. I’ll be interesting to see if it makes any sort of difference to mixes.

You know, I downloaded the Cass McCombs session for Luna a while back and I noticed that Jacquire King had the Studer instantiated on basically every track, all with the Studer gain knob turned to 12 o'clock, more or less like you've done in this video.
