You should be able to export from logic as AAF, right? File > Export > Project as AAF. Then press command + I in Luna.

Ah, ok, so luna can’t open and convert the logic file,
i need to export as aaf, then luna can import that,
Ya, that makes sense, thx!

The session import is designed for importing other LUNA sessions, not those from other DAWs.

I don’t think so, UA sells if hard as track in other daws mix in luna.
If you tracked in luna, you have nothing to import?

Not true. I use the import feature in Logic all the time. I often have very different layouts for the tracking environment versus the mixing environment. But if I've taken the time to set up markers, tempo, etc. I can just import those into the mixing template.
Another example is if you had one project with a band, liked the treatment you did with certain buses and plugins and want to drop those into a different project. Just import those into the new one.
Regarding what they showed about tracking in a different DAW and mixing in LUNA. That was showing specifically with Pro Tools Audio Bridge. And it was relating to changing LUNA to Core Audio and then choosing the bridge as your device. But you aren't using session import in that case. You'll still have to record the tracks in LUNA, but you can play the PT project as your source.

I don’t understand the logic of this at all?
To mix in luna, I’d be exporting from not importing into logic.
If you record in luna, why would you need to import a luna session into luna?
If you are using luna, you would know better than me, but that’s not the impression I have from reading about the new pre-release at uaforum ?

I don't know any DAW that imports sessions from another DAW.
I just export AAF from Logic, and import AAF into LUNA.
Import session data from within LUNA, is the same thing LOGIC has for importing from one Logic session to a new one...
So, you can either export from logic as AAF (which was invented for just this purpose of transferring between DAWS) or you can export the tracks from Logic as audio, and then import into a LUNA project.
LUNA sounds amazing once you sort yourself out with it.. regards using TAPE on tracks busses, summing etc... takes a bit to find your sweet spot.. hint... -6 on the VUs everywhere...
cheers

AAF to export projects from other DAWs. (Or just print stems.) Import session data in Logic is essentially the same in Luna. (Not as good as PT, but still useful.) LUNA can sound really good. I still don't like the key commands and editing options as well. But, it's improving little by little.

Import session data is for something like this instance. I previously mixed a session from a place I track all the time. I then track rhere again and want to save myself a ton of setup time by just pulling in my template from the last mix. I pull up the new session that was just tracked…i can match tracks that are the same…now they have all the plugs, all the panning, volume, all the sends, busses etc. Let’s say in this last session I didn’t have a kazoo track, but this time I do instead of “matching” the track, i would would assign it as “new track.” Hit import and the session is basically set up and half mixed. Think of it as an assistant that came in and set everything up where all you have to do is make creative decisions.
I’ve yet to do it in Luna, but I do this all the time in PT. There are times when say - lay down a new bass track and it might just be easier/quicker to drop a few plugs on it…but say you really loved the way the bass was on the last session you mixed and you don’t remember exactly what you did. All you have to do is import the session data for the bass track, match the new track with the old one, choose all parameters except audio there is all the plugs, sends, busses etc.

And btw - don’t know about Logic - but say my session was tracked in PT and I want to mix in Luna. I would bring the tracked session up in PT, then highlight all the audio I wanted and then select (CMD/shift/3 I think) “consolidate audio” or maybe it’s files. It basically prints all those files back into the audio folder. Then sort by date and all of the files you just consolidated are the latest ones all done at the same time. Import those files into a Luna session, then click on import session data to pull in all the session data from a previous session you’ve mixed in Luna.

Yeah. Any help on what the hell is going on is appreciated. I’m a dumb songwriter first, so math has always been an issue, but I’d love for someone to slow walk me through all the db=Dbu blah blah bullshit.

Got this from Drew: so coin finally dropped ! LUNA can open AAF files from other DAWs But the new ISD is for LUNA to LUNA sessions If you're mixing a record and each song is in its own session (as it should be) once you've mixed that first song, it allows you to import all those settings into the 2nd song which is a HUGE jump start for mixing that one. This is standard PT workflow for many decades and is a key feature that was stopping LUNA adoption.

This isn’t really anything new. Pro Tools has done this for at least a decade.

Nice video! I honestly haven’t really used the tape plugs that much…but that’s a good habit to keep them at unity gain. I really haven’t paid that much attention to it in the past…usually try and shoot for around -6 when tracking and then use volume faders to drive into a tape or console on the bus - and just adjust with the summing knobs. But this is def a more scientific approach.
