What's everyones thoughts on Reaper 7? new takes system is cool but the reaclassical extension is even better. I haven’t tried that with 7 yet but it is tested with 6.83 Realimit is better than l1, l2, and a bunch of popular distorted commercial limiters. 7.00 crashed voxengo span, 7.01 doesn't. New gui is unfinished. Stick the reaper 6 theme for now. The new comping system looks pretty cool

What I appreciate most is Reaper always pushing the bar in terms of latest tech, and not trying to gimp the app to squeeze dollars.
They bump up each track to support 128 channels of I/O. And 256 tracks (I think). Im not sure exactly what that means in real life, however compare that to the PT Artist thread where no one is sure if it’s 32 voices or 32 total track limit?
One of the things I’ve done before, I discovered you can bounce tracks down to multi-channel audio. This way instead of stems, I bounced drum out to a single 8 or 12 channel wav (can’t remember exact), then made a new project where I could ‘exlode multichannel audio to mono tracks’. This meant I just had to upload the one file for the cloud, or USB stick. Import one file, explode. Felt like the future, like maybe someday a 64-128 channel wav will have the whole mix stems, already time aligned. Just a cleaner way that is thinking outside the box and seeing what the future might bring

One of the things I’ve done before, I discovered you can bounce tracks down to multi-channel audio. This way instead of stems, I bounced drum out to a single 8 or 12 channel wav (can’t remember exact), then made a new project where I could split them to mono tracks. This meant I just had to upload the one file for the cloud, or USB stick. Felt like the future, like maybe someday a 64 channel wav will have the whole mix stems. Just a cleaner way that is thinking outside the box and seeing what the future might bring Each track can have up to 128 channels of audio. Reaper doesnt have different track types, only tracks that have can have different media items made from the media files in them. So if I want, I can have 12 mic drum kit as 12 channels of audio all in one track that outputs stereo audio to the stereo mix bus.

That can be a pretty clean way to do things. And since you can run reaper as a plugin.. so that one 12 channel track, could than mean a reaper project on that one track? A project inside a project? I think I’ve done that before.. instead of stems.. so that I didn’t have to re-bounce anything. Faster if the computer can handle it
Then the new spacer thing makes a lot more sense. So cool!

I imagining 12 tracks of full multitracks as a plugin on each..spacers between them.. and Mastering an album without opening and closing or dealing with tabs you can’t see the name of. I’ll have to do some tests at some point. (It’s Probably already been possible for years I just didn’t realize it)

I’ll have to do some tests at some point. (It’s Probably already been possible for years I just didn’t realize it) You can set it up to lay out your tracks on one reaper track snapped to a grid to get the edges of the fades on exact cd blocks with inserts on the individual media items in the one track (mastering processing) for easy mastering with region renders to make sure the digital versions are exactly the same as the ddp for the cd including gaps. I still usually keep the processing in a different session than the ddp and 16-bit digital distribution renders but I could consolidate them like that if I wanted. karumba's free ddp template and the free reaclassical extension make it easier. also james z's video on how to setup a custom ddp template is easy to follow.

I’m pretty sure it runs a VST, it was easy to follow the directions when I did it. I think I’ve done in PT? I can’t remember for sure. My old laptop struggled but it worked
Another cool thing, you can install it on a USB stick and it will run on anything, at least that I’ve tried. Helpful when at PT studios and don’t want to install stuff on their system

Not sure, but since Reaper can install on a USB drive, you can just take that wherever you want and run it from the drive directly..

I hope they fixed track automation for plug ins. Not being able to automate many tracks plugins via one of them is a PITA

((Reaper can't run as a VST, Reason can)) You are right, it was Reason I used as a plugin. Sorry about that guys! I could have sworn reaper could do it. It was Reason, I had a project brought in and had to do it. Shoot.. Speaking of Reason, the mixer sounds really good. Cool program, quick to make songs with
