Let me guess.. they find the Mac better?
Let me also guess.. they don't run any tests that use CUDA acceleration on the 4090 so it looks like the arm CPU is somehow superior?
You don't pay the ridiculous price premium for a 4090 unless you're gaming or editing with something like davinci that can actually use the CUDA cores.

Let me guess.. they find the Mac better? I don't believe so but this is a bit of an odd comparison. The MSI is a more expensive mobile workstation / desktop replacement and the other is a low draw slimline laptop, it turns out the power hungry, hot running machine is over twice as fast. *Sarcastic mode on, nooo you don't say? *Off..
Said MSI isn't a studio laptop, you wouldn't want fans blaring etc. and what possible need could you have for what's currently the fastest GPU out on the market? Even if you used your studio machine for casual gaming or game audio dev it's way over the top. I must say though that's an impressive CPU, the power draw is quite a bit less than the desktop equivalent (157w max) but it's nearly as fast. Costs a fair bit more though.
There's many other Intel laptops (like the one's with a 12900H / 13700H) that would be a better / more inline comparison but they also cost a lot less.

The MSI is 75% overpriced due to the 4090 GPU. If none of the tests actually utilize the GPU, then you're comparing the 13980HX CPU to the M2 CPU specifically. And anyone who's used Intel laptop CPUs knows that they're quite crippled in "low power mode". If you took a non-H model and ran it, it'd smash the M2. So this seems like a desperate attempt to create a "giant killer" comparison but it's so apples-to-oranges that I can't believe that it's a real honest video.

Have you seen the passmark benchmarks etc.? The 13980HX as I already said is a bit over twice as fast as an M2 Max. It's quicker than an M1 Ultra which you can only get in a Mac studio. All for a max TDP of 157W, again as I said it is a very impressive CPU..
Also yeah I agree, it wouldn't (or doesn't) cost anywhere near as much with a lesser GPU in it. There are variations with a 4080 for example that costs about $1300.00 less which makes it cheaper than the Mac. Although yeah, it's apples to oranges because the M2 Max isn't a desktop replacement CPU and favours energy / heat savings over raw power. Although Intels lower models do the same and they are on par or even more powerful.

I expect it to show how Intel has so screwed themself! They are a full generation behind in transistor tech. The M2 is on TSMC 5nm node, Intel on what they call 10nm, the equivalent of 7nm. The only way to win is shove more watts and bigger dies. In a laptop? Why bother?Battery life will be terrible. You are stuck with whatever screen keyboard mouse they put in there. They have no choice but to do this stuff to try to stay relevant. Only demographic I can think of: a serious gamer who really, really doesn’t like the idea of a killer $5k mobile desktop pc. I guess, a frequent flyer gamer?
AMD is the way to go for PC. They are also coming out with new mobile chips this year using 5nm/6nm design. That’s what you should be going to if you want Windows, esp laptop. And the older series on 7nm are usually just crazy good deal in cost comparison to Intel. Exception- Intel is stuffing the budget areas with their chips nobody wants to buy, so you can find good deals there (now that I think of it, I have a 10nm Intel laptop.. 11th gen the cpu speed is pretty close to top end for gaming. The loud fan noise made it a great hand me down to a gamer kid. He wants a desktop now)

Intel is still the fastest and lowest latency. Haters are going to hate. The only problem is cooling them. The 12900k could be cooler with several fan all in one cooler in a fractal mid tower case. The 13900k needs a full size atx case and 3 fan aio

They use the same model numbers for the CPU and GPU, but they aren't. There's no way they have a 500W 4090 or a 300W 13900 in the laptop.. these are equivalent to much lower tier parts but they use the higher model numbers to charge more money..
