Hey, I need good headphones for using interchangeably with my highend speakers in a shitty apartment. Any thoughts/recommendations?

Headphones are so personal, do you know if your monitors are emulated in current slate studios headphone app ?

Hm, mines are the closest to the Quested nearfields with custom amps. I don't see no V2108's or anything similar on the VSX's page, unless you can find that optionally somewhere else

Oh no, I mean my monitors are the closest to the Questeds, but they don't seem to be emulated by the Slate's app The PMCs might be using Volts, but probably not the Morels

Lol, I was looking at MM-500's yesterday. They look kinda cool, but they are a bit more expensive in Europe sadly
My friend who designed my speakers, said that HD800's are the headphones I probably should look into, but they seem to be discontinued

Yeah that price is steep. I’ve already tried a bunch including the Slate VSX and just haven’t had any luck mixing on headphones at all yet.

They look fricking hot tbh 500 euros more in Europe... I just happen to come from a region that's known for being very efficient with money, so it's very difficult for me to justify the difference, but yeah, I might end up getting em

There’s no 1:1 translation. I’ve had the best success with HD25, the standard dj can, for translation to dj setups. I find a pair indispensable and hope to check out the hd26 soon
I know guys who reference modded hifiman he-6 off a speaker amp and modded Sennheiser hd 800. The mods are critical

You’ll never know till you listen yourself. I’ve bought a number of more expensive cans, always ditch them for my trusty sony 7506s !!

Beyer DTX 700 Pro X's, I use them interchangeably with my Dynaudio's.

If you're interested in planars, HIFIMAN Sundara are great.

Never tried the HD800's, but have the HD600s, and I recently demo'd and kept the Neumann NDH 30's I like very much that have been favorably reviewed everywhere I've seen online. You should be able to buy those from a place that does 30 day returns essentially letting you demo if you want.

I went for multiple lower priced options.
I really needed huge subwoofer-like bass, less ohms= more sub.. DT770 32 ohm, or 16ohm if you can find them. Kinda loose vibe, but they are fun and the car sounds exactly like the headphones now.
Shure 840 for a tighter response in the lows and overall, remind me of 7506, slightly bright but much less harsh.
And I stopped. I barely spent anything, I still plan to add to it. I'll add 7506 because its cheap and shines a light on the 5k-15k range. Maybe AT50. DT990 would be very cool. AKG open back maybe, even 240. The DT's are just perfect for me in the lows.

One rule only - you have to listen for yourself. I have bought so many supposedly good to great cans on reputation over the years and they've all been lacking somehow. The closest for mine were Shure 1540s if only they didn't have the upper bass bump.... Cheers, Ross

HD800s are about as good as it gets. They aren't discontinued. And the HD600 are 200 units less good (as it gets), but about $1500 units less expensive!

I just got the Ollo Audio S5x studio phones last week and I've been really impressed with them. They sound very flat and it's very easy to hear what's going on with individual elements in a mix. olloaudio.com/products/s5x-1-0-reference-headphonesThey will let you send them back if you don't like them. Also you can buy every part of their phones individually, which is cool.

The mixes I do ITB and masters of them done with Fusion and other stuff translate really well on my phone and my cheap $15 Walmart speakers. I'm using a K701 straight into the Aurora N's headphone output. The dac and amp are very critical too. Read nwavguy.blogspot.com for more on that.

I'm using the new Neumann NDH30's here, and they are absolutely fantastic headphones.
