As I've just changed the strings on my acoustic for the first time in.. Too long, I managed to get a B string tip stuck deep in under my thumbnail. I know someone else who snapped an E bass string a while back and got whipped by that.
Feel free to share your instrument based injuries here.

Plenty of the aforementioned string finger pokes. Never any eye shots that I can remember.

This is why I wince real hard whenever I see internet randos claiming that DIY piano tuning is easy and something anyone can do to save money. But sure, if you want to risk serious injury anything is DIY.

Accidents happen whether you're a pro or not, through experience you learn to minimise the risk but even if you do it day and day out there are no guarantees.

I had no idea piano tuning is dangerous.

I had no idea piano tuning is dangerous. Those strings are thick as hell and under an insane amount of tension compared to a guitar. If you've never had one break on you while playing, it sounds like a gun being fired. Not something I'd ever DIY, personally.

Plenty of guitarists stabbing me with their untrimmed string ends. I put a bass headstock through a ceiling fan lamp globe once and showered myself with glass. Last song, great way to end a show!

Eric Bloom and I for years did a "cross guitars" gag onstage where we'd rub the fingerboards of our SG's (Eric was playing a '70's Les Paul gold top in this instance) against each other for the sonic chaos. One day in MA, the polarity of our stage amps was reversed, and for whatever reason, the potential between our guitar strings must have been close to AC line level. When the guitars crossed and the strings touched, big sparks came off the strings, some broke and when we examined the guitars afterward, a couple strings had melted into the nylon saddles of Eric's tune-o-matic bridge. It never happened again, and we've done it hundreds of times.
I still get string end punctures if I'm not careful changing strings. I used to leave string ends untrimmed, but not any more.

A long long (long) time ago, a friend loaned me a Vox guitar (I think it might have been an Ultrasonic) to gig with for a few nights. It had all sorts of built-in effects, including a wah. Ergonomically, the wah was pretty neat: there was a triangular piece just south of the bridge and you'd simply push down with the heel of your hand to push up the center frequency of the filter. It was quick and very responsive. But there was one big problem. The control piece would rotate around, and right when the wah was at its highest frequency, the controller would get stuck under the Bigsby. That's the prime place to get very loud HF feedback. Happened to me twice. Wailing away in front of a crowd and suddenly there's a cutting pig squeal coming off the stage. And of course everybody looks right at me. If there's a bad sound coming off the stage, most people instinctively blame the guitarist. They're usually right. I was really happy to hand that guitar back to its owner.

It's drummers who have to be careful.
I presume you've seen the film "Spinal Tap"!!

This is a great thread.
Many finger pricks along the way. I’ve ALWAYS had a fear when changing strings that one of them is going to whip around and slice my eyeball.

I will spare you the very graphical images of two blue toes taped up at the emergency room, and show a nice one instead: imgur.com/a/2BoEIMnThis is the body of a guitar build I was finishing up with endless coats of TruOil. The most dust free place I found for it to dry was a ceiling lamp hook in a different room. But I took it down twice a day to add another thin coat. It probably had to happen sooner or later; it slipped from my hand, and I dropped the lower strap end over the concrete floor while carrying it to the work bench. Luckily there was no major dent in the guitar body, as the landing was softened by my toes.

Two nights ago, I was putting my wife’s Taylor Mini in its case when I jammed a +%+%*# string end into the palm of my hand. Son of a gun! That hurt almost as much as sticking one under my fingernail, which I’ve done more than a few times.
