You are staying with the SA 67 Martin? I've never heard a Soyuz - is this one like a U 87 but smoother in the upper mids perhaps? Cheers, Ross

Cheers, Ross Ross, I would place it halfway between a U87Ai and a Vintage 1967-1985 (battery compartment) U87. Very nice mic. If I were looking for cardioid-only FET mic, and wanted that familiar k67/k87 (ie Neumann ‘87) sound into a gorgeous toroidal transformer giving my audio a sweet “hug”, and I wanted it for a bargain, this is where I’d go first.

I don't have as much experience with vintage 87s as Chad does, but I do own a Soyuz 0-19 FET, as well as a Stam 67 and Serrano 87. And I've used several 87Ai mics over the years, and have a lot of experience with a particular M269. To my ear, the Soyuz 0-19 FET sounds like it's in the same family as an 87, for sure. Again, to me: the Soyuz is overall a bit thicker, a bit more xformer saturation, a bit richer - with more harmonics to the fundamental than an 87. To me, the 87 is a bit leaner, perhaps a tiny bit smoother on top, and definitely more boring. Now, sometimes boring is what you want, so I honestly don't mean that in a negative sense. But at least for me, there are only two "wishes" I have for my 0-19 FET: - I wish it were multipattern (you can buy an omni capsule for it, though)
- I wish I had the tube version
That's pretty much it. If I had the tube version, I don't think I'd be looking for another LDC. As it is, the FET version rocks.

Wishing you much prosperity MJB. Including if/when eventually you might want to get another one.
My health insurance, would pay the majority of my future medical bills... But can totally relate. Partly as life has no guarantees. Chris

The thing about the Soyuz 0-19, ( same as the 0-17 FET) is it really sounds like itself. It's not a clone. It is in the zone of a U-87, but having used a vintage U-87 every day for 11 years back when I had a home studio, the Soyuz has more life. It's like a Mo' Better U87. I like that a new company came out with something original, handmade to the highest standards at a reasonable price (for its class), that challenges a classic no-nonsense great mic.
I'll be sorry to see it go, but I'll have another Soyuz at some point.
Definitely use a nice tube preamp with it and it shines.
