Studio M1 has 64GB. Shut everything off, Avid Link still running in background, 7GB app and 10GB total.

It seems odd to have a 25-30% system background operations memory tax, ie, only 70-75% of memory is actually available?

The “Memory Pressure” stat is the one that’s important, along with “Swap Used”. If “Memory Pressure” goes into the yellow or red, then you are suffering performance degradation. “Swap Used” means your computer has had to use the hard drive to compensate for low RAM at times.
