For those of you who have had the opportunity to try several of these SSL Buss Compressors, which one works for you? Wes Audio Dione IGS Buss Comp SSL $1200 buss Comp
I currently have a Audioscape buss comp, however I need to get more 500 gear for a smaller footprint.
I’m also looking at LA-2A’s in 500 gear format, do any of them have a Kenetek T4B in them?
Thanks

500 series? Serpent SB4001 all the way.... You should check out the Smart if you haven’t yet Bill. I like it a good bit better than the Serpent.

I've never used one, but I like the idea of the Wes Audio because of recall.

Smart C1LA is my favorite. +1 Smart CL1A is an excellent unit. My only preference over this (in a similar price bracket) is the Roll Music RMS 755 but this is a rack unit and out of production.

It’s not 500 but rather than build another DIY I might abuse my friendship with Ward when I get my tax refund $ and reserve an Audioscape for the live rig.

I have made a bunch of these and got the last ones at the lab. It's a little different to the others as I build a replica of the DBX 202C cans found on the E series consoles and early G series. They are quite colored.

Very interesting Josh the old DBX cans do sound very different, I’m just not sure if the old style is better than the modern, but it is a very different sound compared to those who have grown up on the sound of modern THAT.

Agreed. And not only in the GR circuit but also on the sidechain. If you want a cleaner or more modern bus comp then mine is not right, THD on these cans is high but that is also what is special about it!

I've used the SSL G 500 series and own a Serpent SB4001. Side by side, they were pretty different. The Serpent was capable of being much more transparent, for better or for worse. I find the Serpent is most inspiring with no HPF and the A1 release, 4db ish GR. Classic sound. With the HPF and lower GR it can be a little toooo transparent for my tastes although the "SLOPE" curve is really cool. It seems to make the snare a bit punchier and let bass pop out in a front in a cool way.
I find it works on just about any mix.

Another SB4001 vote. I don’t find it too transparent. The “grind” button should always be in and then it’s a matter how hard you want to push it. Or keep it clean.
I use mine on drums. I’ve also used the “key” for some nifty ducking effects while tracking. It’s a great piece.

I love it! Been running it before an Elysia Xpressor on the master bus both set differently getting about 2 db gain reduction each. Much prefer the THD on, has a nice edge to it. Would definitely recommend.

Thanks I can warmly recommend IGS, i have the LA ONE myself as a rack version, they make it in 500 format too. This is the one comp I probably never let go. They have their own cell, haven't had the need to replace it, and cannot comment on vs, kenetek. As for buss compressors, I do not have much experience with the ssl’s… but again, I use an IGS tubecore master edition as mix bus comp. And couldn't be happier. So I can only give a thumbs up on the build quality and sound on that.
