Tube boost does something pretty cool there. I'm not so sure the top end is very pultec like but it's hard to say. I'd like to hear one in person!

I have the Gainlabs Empress on the master bus, it's like a more flexible modern recreation and the tube boost function does help to add a bit of natural sounding grit plus raise the volume. It's one of the best sounding units I've come across and I demo'd a lot of EQ's..

There was another thread where we spoke about this, but I couldn't find it. This video is in German, but if you go to approx 11:20 in you can hear a direct comparison between the Empress and a Pultec. The Empress is definitely lighter in the low end. So if you grab the Gainlabs for what it is, and not as a "Pultec" you'll probably be very happy.

They just announced a Chanel strip 2450$ also gainlabaudio.com/BISHOP ALL TUBE CHANNEL STRIP We are proud to announce that the new family member of Gainlab Audio products has arrived! Our own designed BISHOP all tube channel unit brings much more than you expect from a regular high quality channel strip. The heart of the unit based on the mic preamp which consist three vacuum tubes constructed in all tube design. There are inputs for the mic and instrument on the front while mic and line also selectable on back panel. Over the regular switches of phase, polarity and phantom power we found a special drive pot which is available for colouring the instrument input through a discrete solution. The big enlighten eye catching ring for stepped gain selector is separated in two selectable scales which gives ultimate capabilities to make gain even until +60dB

Around $2K at Vintage King. They also have a nice VariMu compressor for under $2K. There's your master bus.

That guy. Ugh. Surprised his thumbnail doesn’t have “Snake Oil” plastered all over it.

I would love a comparison between the Gaintec and the Pultec EQP-500X, which is $1,400, solid state, and has a 70 Hz low-end boost, which is tighter than the 60 Hz.
It would be great to compare the Gaintec with 2x EQP-500X, which are about 700 dlls more expensive (but might have better resale value).
I was leaning toward the Pultecs 500 series, but now I'm not so sure.

I see Heritage Audio have bought out Lang Electronics so there will be Lang eq on the horizon. I have a friend who prefers his Langs to his Pultecs for mastering. The Lang logo is what I use for his contact pic. The Bettermaker Eq’s are great and recallable. I bought 2. Do you have both models?
