So I got a 10 U 500 series rack that has 8 channels of DB25... Can I use the XLR ins and outs for the last 2 tracks while the DB25 is connected? Or are they assuming I'll have some 2u 500 units?

Q1 Is there a schematic or wiring diagram available with the unit?
Q2 What make and model is it?

Shouldn't be much of a problem since neither Jack is going to be a switching jack, but honestly for flexibility and simplicity I would grab a patchy!

if it's connected to something, then you're making a parallel connection, so assuming the impedances are the same, divide the impedance by 2 to get your new lower impedance. Is it a problem? Probably not. Is it mic pre? Is there 48V present? Then it might be.

This is more a question of routing the 8 DB25s and 2 XLR channels into my existing patchbays. Unless you mean something completely different

This will absolutely work but be aware, splitting outputs is generally fine however splitting inputs can cause all types of loading issues.

So its ok to use the 8 channels with the DB25, and XLR to 1/4" in and out on the last 2 channels?
