Finally picked this up this sale...and wow, it has replaced my comp on Drum Bus and Mix Bus. Read the manual lol. Also, the mix knob is your friend with this thing.

since they put up that 2 for $149 bundle, i've been hemming and hawing about biting on that with my $25 off coupon. nothing i'm really that excited about getting right now - i have an awful lot of plugs UAD and otherwise.

Been eyeing this one for a while. I've been using the UAD 33609 on my drum bus and like it a lot. I have the Waves 2500 but hardly ever use it. Maybe I should read the manual too haha. Any particular reason the UAD would make one a convert?

Any particular reason the UAD would make one a convert? Definitely a lot of character. You can really get it to break up and get that huge room sound with it. I’ve got the 33609 too and the 2500 adds a lot more character than that.

To me the uad version offers up way more usable tonal possibilities than the wavs version. It’s a great plug for sure.

You know - that was my initial reaction when it came out...and the reason I had never bought it. But if you have slow attack fast release, Knee medium, thrust loud, Ratio 10, L/R at about 70...I can get a pretty trashy drum sound.

I haven't used my UAD API 2500 much, it seemed way too grabby to me. Perhaps I haven't been using it in a way that gets great sounds.Maybe I'll actually have to "read the manual".

Damnit, this thread and the Hitsville Chsmbers are making me regret quitting UAD. Might be time to buy a satellite. Ugh!

The tone changes drastically when you change between the feed back and feed forward modes as well.

Any particular reason the UAD would make one a convert? I find the Waves to be more aggressive sounding than the UAD. I actually like the Waves on drum parallel better than the UAD. The UAD is richer in the low end and that is good for other things.

I picked this up on sale a while back but still haven't figured out how to use it right. I could say that for at least 1/2 my plugins. Are there presets that work well, at least as a starting point? Perhaps some people could share their presets?

It is certainly good if you want to dirty up some tracks.

Perhaps some people could share their presets? I can understand that sentiment. However, this one seems to confound me a bit more than usual. I'm just not sure what it's about, action wise. Many times I listen, tweak, tweak, tweak, and end up just saying "ew". I would love to see anyone else's presets or learn how they are using it.

The UAD is richer in the low end and that is good for other things. The Waves is tonally much cleaner than the hardware and UAD and sounds good on more things, the same with the Glue for SSL being less gritty. UAD adds fatness for whatever reason on their SSL and API branded emulations that I’ve just never gotten from the branded hardware. The Waves seems to have a lookahead and low passed side chain like the classic Renaissance Comp. It’s more a clean digital compressor than circuit emulation and this is for the better given the awful waves ssl bus and cla 76 compressors. some of the api 2500 aspects are there but those + clean tone make the plug a classic in a world of bad emulations and gross distortions. The attacks go from pingy to smacky as you go up. I like it on 10 ms and 30 ms on most things that need to smack

I had an ancient version of the Waves Gold Bundle for my PC setup for many years (used a dongle) and had early UA plugins (UAD-1). Eventually I went Mac but was very slow to bring any plugins back other than stock stuff (focusing on the best hardware I could afford) and rebuying/adding only a select few. One of those plugins I found useful was the Waves API2500, but it's never stopped me from wanting the hardware unit. Sounds like I need to get back into the UAD DSP!
I fell to Waves temptation yesterday though, bought a few of their newer options on sale (including BB tubes and the sampler/looper). -Chris
