The "best lucky find" thread got me thinking about this. Are there any classics today that people don't value enough? I'm actually talking Pro Audio, but I bet some of these Squire Classic Vibes will be sought after ala Japanese Fenders soon.

Guitar-wise I can see those Gibson "Specials" maybe being sought after in the future. Might hear, "these baked maple fretboards were only in production for a year and a half... blah blah blah, great tone..."
Pro audio-wise, maybe ART or even Behringer stuff?

I can't believe I'm going to say this but somehow the ART Pro VLA is going to become a "classic piece." Hell the Altec stuff I have in my racks was considered utter crap for the longest time, and now the prices just keep going up. Hard to believe.
Oh, and if Shannon @ Mic Rehab keeps doing what he's doing his modded CV4s are going to be as valuable as some Stephen Paul or Korby modded Neumanns. Not that Mikteks are by any means a "throw away," but they're not as coveted as a 47 or 251.

I hope to God above not, but is the TLM103 a possible future 'classic'?

Rode NT1s might be on the list too

I really think Cascade mics are going to be fetching top dollar in about thirty or so years, just like how vintage amps have quadrupled in value since their release.

The old stuff didn't become less crappy. We just couldn't imagine things getting even worse.

Though not inexpensive, I think the Brauner VM1 is a modern day classic. I think that will stand up to, and often surpass, the competition for decades to come.

Who would have ever thought that a Yamaha DX7 or a Roland D50 would be considered a classic and desirable 30 years later?

CL 7802. Not in production anymore and an amazing compressor. Wouldn't sell mine for nothing.

I look all the time on Ebay and they seldom pop up. I think it's one of those things that if someone is selling, they have decided to get out of audio. These things are ridiculously good for the small coin paid. The stigma of gear costing under 1k has keep many from buying this comp I think. Big mistake. There are a handful of pieces under 1k that are must haves IMO. This is one of them. It was billed as a "poor mans LA2A" when it was in production but it's so much more than that. The drive knob opens up a plethora of sonic changes. And it's true stereo, big plus.

I missed one on ebay - I regret it. just in case you do grab one, I got one after listening to cowboy's trax. Bryce at Warm audio recommended I upgrade the transformers and had me contact David at CineMag. David asked me to send him one of the transformers and David ended up designing a new transformer specifically for the environment of the 7802 meaning with the tube stage. You can order them 100% steel or half and half steel and nickel or zebra as Bryce at Warm says. Mine had a crappy replacement tube in it so I got a new tube from Christian at proaudiotubes as cowboy said it is a true opto but uses an led, is stereo and dual mono, so two sources and you can loop a signal through its two channels in series for moderate compression twice. I have some Warm Audio 76's on the way and am really looking forward to using these in conjunction with the 7802.

Not the 7802, you're thinking of the other for SSL style. They still make that SSL one.

All those great Peavey amps from the 70s and 80s are gonna be worth a mint one of these days... built in phaser or chorus? Gold. Built in 'saturation' effect? Platinum.
