We just did for dynamics. The MDWDRC2 is the best thing since Kotelnikov GE and the Pro Audio DSP DSM. If you don't have those, get them. If you demo the Massenburg, you'll be out 340 bucks.

More automated mixing tools for sure, with less and less user input to get “professional” sounding results.
I think the emulated gear thing is going to keep edging forward in minute steps too, and we’ll keep getting excited every two months about the new best thing.

DRC is extraordinary, but to be fair, it’s like fifteen years old at this point 😂 I agree that we’ll see improved ai assisted-mixing tools, similar production and writing tools, and a continued chipping away at “ideal” analog emulations. With that quantum plug that came out recently, I’m expecting some new hot shit reverbs that take advantage of new hot shit processors. I’d also expect a LOT more in the immersive world.

You guys think that the emulations will start to die off as the younger generation comes up? I imagine that less and less kids will be using the real hardware that’s being emulated and gravitate more towards the modern tools. Auto align, soothe, trackspacer, whatever. I bet that the heroes of the kids aren’t using racks of gear like when we were coming up.

The Massenburg EQ has been available for PT for well over a decade. I used to have it, never warmed up to it, and somehow lost it in the TDM/RTAS/AAX transition. Will be interested to try out the compressor at some point, but I'm already way over compressed with dozens of plugs, and 50-ish channels of hardware. LOL

I haven’t tried the new thing but $300-$400 for a compressor plug-in is comedy. If anyone needs talking down from the ledge, just go read the first couple weeks on the forums for a few dozen other Game Changing, Next Level, Revolutionary plug-ins that you eventually bought for like $43 and which you’ve forgotten you even have.

obviously a leaf out of ua’s launch price playbook, but even UA now within 12 months is discounting -50%.
And now, even if you have never bought one ua plug you can buy ultimate 11 for like $1200.

The students I'm teaching certainly fit your description, but they're still absolutely enamored with real gear, and plugin emulations represent the closest they're going to consistently get to that gear in many cases (at least, for the time being). Analog gear is sexy, and people will want access to it by whatever means they can afford.

I bet that the heroes of the kids aren’t using racks of gear like when we were coming up. i think yes. in my opinion for modern pop music the „mixer/producer“ will use lots of AI mixing tools and fx and presets/style plugins. whatever that means. semi or automatic mixing and mastering will be normal. i think all the old classic gear will thin out, only a few remaining for those niche rock, alternative music. yes i am that pessimistic.

I’m not sure, the classics are just too easy of a sell, I always tell the up and comers to experiment and try to find there own thing but each generation seams to gravitate more and more to the Clones and emulations of the classics.

Peer pressure I guess we could call it. I see it all the time, people will talk about how they want to make records like Fleetwood Mac or Queen or The Beatles or whatever, and then they go and make records that...don't sound anything like that. Super loud, sausage masters with the standard sampled drums up the middle, never-wavering wide doubled guitars, tap delay vocals...the thing, the modern 'sound'.

This is literally me to a T. Lmfao. Haha. Sorry, I don’t mean it as a dig, just something interesting that I’ve noticed over and over. Lol no offense taken my man! I actually thought that was hilariously accurate.
As much as I love the sound of classic records, I genuinely suck at doing that sound. It's actually really frustrating. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to take a song in a more retro/vintage/vibey direction, and then it's like... OK, the snare doesn't sound right... vocals too dark... guitars need more distortion... aaaaaand before you know it, it's drum samples and EQ matching and Melodyne all over the place.
It probably boils down to the fact there's just no substitute for real instruments. Even though I consider myself a wizard with samples/amp sims, it just sounds like a cheap imitation when I try to do anything vintage-y with them.

Out of eight students, only one said they knew the song 😳 Worse yet, I had to explain to them what made the production so brilliant and effective.
