It’s excellent. Between the two models I don’t feel the need for more options. To be fair, I stopped looking since getting it 3ish years ago.

Compared to Liquid Sonics Lustrous Plates?

Compared to Liquid Sonics Lustrous Plates? Sampled Convolution vs Uncanny Valley model generated Convolution…I like Transatlantic for going the former route (it sounds more like a physical plate to me) but the Liquidsonics is more flexible for decay times and other controls. I know a multi-platinum selling recordist who has a physical plate in his studio, and he recently told me that he hardly uses it anymore. He loves the plates in Seventh Heaven, among other things.

I liked this a lot four years ago or whenever it came out. It's still great. Just haven't used it much lately.

Fantastic reverb. I have a couple audicon plates, which is what the “American” side is, and brian nailed it. I called him the second I heard it to confirm my suspicions. Great plug.
As an aside, brian - the man behind rare signals - lost his incredible studio (Zippah studio, here in Boston) to a fire about a year ago. That place was a treasure trove of amazing gear. A massive loss to our community as a whole.

Hmm…maybe the site needs updated. The paragraph under the demo download doesn’t mention AAX.

Transatlantic Plate is the best sounding convolution plate ever. If you're doing a lot of vocal work, just pull the trigger and go for it!
The one problem for me doing not so vocally focused genres or where the vocals can't sound apart from the music is that it sounds so good, even when you eq the resonance out of it, it doesn't sit in most mixes tonally so I've never bought it and use the PSP EMT 2445 religiously instead.

Man, I do not get along with this reverb. I don't wanna dissuade anyone else from digging it, because this stuff is all wildly subjective, but this plugin, to me, sounds really odd and not in a good way (again, to me). Everything else I already have was such a relief on my ears when I switched to it from Transatlantic Plates (Reverberate with EMT140 IRs, Seventh Heaven Pro, Lustrous Plates, the free Soundtoys Little Plate, Pro-R, etc). I dunno, I just don't like the sound it produces. It sounds a lot like my Alesis QuadraVerb trying to do a plate. I love the QuadraVerb for a couple of things, but realistic, lush plates is definitely not one of them.
Are those of you that dig this plugin doing something unique with it?

I love the QuadraVerb for a couple of things, but realistic, lush plates is definitely not one of them. Are those of you that dig this plugin doing something unique with it? I'm demoing it now and jumped on to share some thoughts. I've got it pulled up with UAD140 and Lustrous Plates. I've got a track pulled up that I did that's got a string section, acoustics and lots of vocals/harmonies. For starters, Transatlantic Plates (TP) is waaay hot compared to the others. I ran a 1khz test tone to calibrate the plugs and had to pull TP down almost 20dB. I've been comparing the tails and TP has a distinctly more metallic sounding tail than UAD or LP, which are both very smooth and lush. I can't dial this out with the high cut. Even with the high cuts set the same, I could not get LP to get that metallic zing that I am hearing with TP. Now, I have never used a real plate, so I cannot make any judgements on which is more authentic. The controls on the TP are minimal, which can be a good or bad thing. Compared to the LP, which gives you option overload. At first, it seemed to me that TP melded with the source better, vs the others which kinda sat on top. However, after more tweaking with the LP, and adjusting the processing to High and setting to true stereo, it blended much more beautifully. There is loads more low end with the LP and UAD, but that can be dialed out. I still think that TP blends with the source really well. It's dead simple to use (though there is no modulation controls). It does sound REALLY different than either the UAD or the LP, which sound more similar to each other. TP has a distinct sound, which you will either love...or not. Man, there are just so many really good reverb plugins these days. Competitive market.

I don’t use it a lot anymore with rock and metal. Dan is right about it not working if the reverb has to blend with the source. For that I’d go with Oxford or BX20. Then maybe UAD 480. 224 sometimes. You also really do have to turn it down a lot. But if you turn it down adequately enough with a rock or metal mix, you end up not being able to get enough of it on there. BX20 might be the biggest sound that still blends with the source. People on Gearspace said back in 2015 that it had some Lexicon type qualities.
Transatlantic worked really well when I used a fanmade instrumental of You Can Close Your Eyes by Linda Ronstandt for someone to record vocals on. The one where they made the instrumental using the actual cd. A lot of plugins different from my usual staples worked better on that song.

The gain staging is wonky for sure on this one. Watch that if you are comparing it to others.
It sounds like a physical plate to me, based on my experience. Most “plate” plugins are dark and modulated. Both useful, but for classic sounds this does it for me. You’ve got to crank those filters pretty far usually, but that’s true of real plates too.
The PSP digital plate is great if you want something that blends into the background more.
