I picked up the UAD/softube cl-1B in the 6 for $399 thing. Tried to use it a couple times - and I have to say it’s grabby as shit. In the limited two times I’ve used the real one, I didn’t particularly care for it then either. Just my somewhat uninformed take. You’re not alone. I’ve owned a CL1A, CL1B and the plug-in. Never quite got along with it 🤷🏻♂️

Hmm I'm not super convinced by the demos that has surfaced so far. Not very Cl1b like to be honest and quite aggressive when it comes to its saturation. I've contacted Herritage to see if I can get a demo unit and demo it on my channel, think I've contacted them in the past though without to much success 🙈

Never quite got along with it 🤷🏻♂️ I was hired to produce an EP for an artist many years ago (back in the days when you got payed handsomely for such work!) The artist hired in some outboard and amongst the pieces was an early serial number CL1A. It was hands down of of the most fantastic bass and vocals compressors I’ve ever used, it was so thick and warm and gooey with this fantastic rubber band envelope. It’s a sound that’s stuck in my head ever since, a modern CL1B doesn’t even come close. These days I track with a Retro STA Level or Thermionic Phoenix MP as they have a very similar type of sound to that CL1A! I’ve often wondered what happened to it, if I’d had the presence of mind I should of bought it off the rental company! Actually, the Softube emulation of the Tubetech on Powercore did capture some of that magic and it’s missing on the UAD or native versions. An odd thing that. I can remember the hire company name and it’s from 25 years ago …. maybe I should see if they still have it. It might be stuck on a store room shelf somewhere beating in its case waiting to blow away it’s next user …. almost like “Jumanji”

I don't feel the same way about the hardware (or software MK1). I should go back and check the Softube/UAD versions again as I just tried a CL1b vocal preset in Abyss that worked very nicely on female vox.

No but while I was doing a record at Sweetwater, they finally got one in. They plugged it in and it was DOA, so…

I absolutely love the Buzz Soc M and use it heavily for vocals on mixdown (plus all Tim’s gear is original and sounds great.)Tracking I love the Chandler RS124 and a Bluey or a Splice if I want the character. I never got the hype with Tubetech, I think they just did clones before the attack of the clones but a Sony C800G clone through a Tubetech clone is insane. I like my TT MP1a though. Heritage did some great Neve clones but they are doing everything now. I’d like to hear the Lang clone. How many times can I write clone?

I was thinking the Heritage unit would be great for bass, acoustic guitar, BV’s etc.
For my lead vocals I always track using a vari mu (Retro STA or Phoenix) which are a great match
Perhaps the Buzz Essence would be a better but than this Tubessor unit? So many options!

Huh. I had opposite reaction, I really enjoyed that video, a lot. I guess it shows can’t please everyone! The difference between here and GS, here we can have an actual discussion, gs would be whose cock is bigger. I would have named it the "Tumessor." I used the CL1 a little in studios in the day. I thought it sounded sweet but too polite, but what do I know?

TubeComp would have been a lot better than the weird Tubesessor.

So, anyone here tried the Tubesessor and made any comparison with the CL1b? Does the Tubesessor have that slightly pillowy and slight euphonic feel of the CL1b? (Sorry - hard to describe!)

I just saw this at NAMM. Physically I was a little surprised. It looked a bit like a copy of the Gyraf 2 tube channel.

Because they both have knobs and a meter on the right? That's DEFINITELY a stretch. It not even a similar set of knobs by any stretch of the imagination. Attachments:

Well I agree with you now seeing them beside each other. The Gyraf has a terrific 3 band EQ section and the Heritage has none. I had no idea this Heritage unit existed so seeing it at NAMM that was just my first impression. They both are
physically the same size but of course one is a tube channel and the other just a compressor.
The Gyraf unit is out of production.
