What are your favorites for snare processing when mixing?
What made your ears pop? What made the snare pop out of the track like when you first tracked it? And thus restored your faith in your abilities?

Don't hate...CLA Drums š
There are times when it's completely wrong, but, there are also lots of times when it just works, especially paired with CLA Epic and the extra control you get over the reverb in that one.

Good old SSL channel, Arouser, and sometimes an 1176.

There are no wrong answers! Lately, I've dispensed with the API2500 and switched over to (don't laugh at this either) Waves' H comp. It seems to preserve the snare sound and yet controls dynamics.
I'll probably hate it later.

Native Instruments Transient Master, Venn Audio FreeClip, Little Radiator. EQ is almost always just Pro-Q or Tonelux Tilt. Generally being quite gentle with all of these.
I find it's really easy to mess up the snare, so I try to get most of my sound from sample blending and keep the processing pretty tame. I will, however, spend a lot of time adjusting the envelope on each sample. That alone usually gets me 90% of the way there.

problem solvers: Waves Aphex Aural Exciter if it needs a bit more up top - much as i want to say Dopamine does it better, it just doesn't for me. the Waves is just grittier Soundtoys Radiator if it's just too boring sounding Eventide 910 if it needs some thickening and just cuz most of the time.

I almost always track with a compressor no one seems to know, yet I never see 'em for sale either...
In mixing there's always a drum parallel with either the Waves API 2500 or (more recently) the UAD Chandler Zener. If I need some juice UAD API vision or SSL channel. Sometimes just an API EQ. Sometimes a McDSP 6030 with one of the models, most often the FRG or 1176. 160VU or 2254 sometimes.

Iāve kinda grown tired of plug-ins that are trying to sound harmonic/saturated/analog-y. If I want to shape the snare (or whatever) sonics and punch, I usually reach for utilitarian stuff these days, like Pro-C2. Heavy lifting of tone shaping happens in the analog domain, then fine tuning with clean stuff ITB. Obviously totally subjective.

Mostly just EQ these days. Once in a blue moon transient designer gets added.

I don't use it all the time, but the Eventide SplitEQ can be really nice - you can find the "crack" in the snare and accentuate it (or push it back, if that's more your thing), and still accentuate the body of the snare, all in the same plug. It's cool.

I find it depends a lot of factors - how was it recorded, am I leaning on the close mic or more on the OHs, style of music, etc.
It often gets some parallel compression along with the kick, more often than not. Sometimes an opto comp if there's a lot of ghost notes or they're using brushes.
I recently picked up the Fuse VQP bundle and already feel it's going to spend a lot of time on snare.

For snare, I'm usually recording 3 mics and blending them. I always time align the mics for phase. Then: 1) PA- SSL 9000J (I like it the best of the SSL channels) 2) Softube Saturate (helps bring it forward a bit 3) Standard Clip (catch the random peaks, nothing too heavy but it tames transients) 4) Sometimes a limiter on the snare buss
5) Various parallel processes of compression 6) A couple different reverb sends
