I have been on quite an odyssey trying to find a small mixer with decent pres and EQ; thats not totally lame and devoid of character, but doesn't have all the full features of a true console that are superfluous for most DAW oriented studios... It seems to be a very hard thing to find... SSL Big Six is one but it seems a bit meh. Then the jump is up to the 10k or more range (Tree, API Box, etc). I stumbled across the TL Audio M1 TubeTracker. Anyone ever used one? The features seem exactly what I'd be after. TubeTracker Link Seems like some co. would do well to make a little sidecar type mixer in this vein, in the 5-7k budget... Maybe its just cost prohibitive nowadays

Any insight on the M1 nobtwiddler ? Worth 3-4 grand these days? Or is it going to be a step back from the IAA, API clones, Manley, Vintech, Weight Tank etc Pres I use now... Fine with not being 'as good' just want some vibe and something that is still legit quality

I believe knobtwittler used one for many years. Try him. Paul had/has a full-on TLA tube console that is a beauty.

Sorry — yes; full console, but should have the same individual channel implementation IIRC.

I would think a good condition M1 would cost around $2 to $4K.. But I know you can get them for closer to 2K.
My console was a bit different, TLA VTC 32. Not a lot of love on any of the forums, simply due to the fact it runs the tubes at a lower voltage, and use them for flavor. Plus it does NOT have any transformers.
BUT THAT SAID... The records I tracked, and mixed on that console sound amazing, period!
As a matter of fact our forum mate, Don R, and BOC, recorded two records with me at my place on that console. And they really do sound wonderful
And I did everything, from Rock, Death Metal, Country, Blues, and Jazz, all major releases...
Plus the fact that you can change the tubes in some channels to have different colors for different things was an extra. MIne has 32 channels, 64 upon mix, with 8 Subgroups! And you can overdrive each section if need be.
Quite a versatile console in my opinion.
Only quirks I had, we a few switches broke, I soldered new ones in.... And the pots become scratchy, which a squirt of Cramolin takes care of nicely.

Figured you would pop in, what keeps the used price of the little M1 down is the 2 or 3 abused ones that keep popping up because the guys who didn’t do their due diligence want to recoup their money rather than sink the money in them and get them right.

I had an 8-channel version M1 Tubetracker with the Adat interface. I bought it for 2500€ new 15 years ago and sold it for 1700€ 7 years ago. I used it primarily for tracking synths and summing. I sometimes miss it, but I wouldn't pay more than 2000€ for one though.

Cool, this is all really informative, thanks! P.S. - I also have a little speakeasy for the lounge at my studio. More cocktail focused though.
