Hi guys, I'm waiting to purchase my two VP28s and two MLs both with Red Dots, as soon as they're back in stock (already e-mailed Jeff to put me on the waiting list). In the meanwhile I ordered gar1731 and gar2520 just to keep myself busy while I'm waiting for the real stuff. Anyway I was wondering if any of you guys could help out with choosing a right rack. This will be my first one and I'm debating between two mentioned in the thread title. So WR8 or 51x the question is now? I like the idea of having DB25 and Link&Feed switches but also huge advantage of 51x with it's 24v and powerful floor box PSU is one of very important things. For now I'm not planing to get any of those "High End" - $$$ power hungry tube modules. Most likely I'll go for two Love Child's so I could have two channels of CAPI and maybe AML ez1073. What do you guys suggest that I should go for: patching functionality of WR8 over 51x's good quality PSU and 24v? Regards Mateja

i have 4 vp28's, 4 lc53's, and 2 g9 500 tube pre's form gemini86 groupdiy, if i got the radial, i'd have to get another box just because it'd have been filled with the units i have from capi alone, plus the g9's wouldn't work on the radial(no 24v rails), you get 3 more spaces w/51x for the same price, and if you're building these other units, your diy skills are good to go for the 51x/floor box, no excuses . I did the x2 option on the floor box psu, and i bought and power a second 51x box from a single PSU, it's extreme quality to price IMO good luck

Thanks Tony
I know that I've read somewhere about two 51x's being powered by same PSU which is a great bang for buck. Most likely I'll go for 51x. Cheaper, more space, 24v and at the end is't supported by cool peeps. And if I really need those patching options on WR8 I can always get one.

I'm thinking about a pair of VP28's myself, but don't yet have a 500-series rack. The WR8 has 8 slots because some space is dedicated to the optional mixer module. I'm also looking at the Radial Powerhouse, which has 10 slots. I like that the Radial's have parallel XLR and TRS outputs, and the Feed and Link switches. The Powerhouse may not be for you though, it has no DB25 as far as I can tell.

To be honest with you that mixer module seems like a good idea but it's not on my list of priorities. But having a Feed&Link switches and DB25 on the a same rack was the main thing that dragged me towards WR8. Also you can't ignore the fact that for less $$$ you can get 11 rack 51x and powerful PSU that runs on 24v where you can put some of those power hungry modules if you need. So far I'll wait till my VP's & ML's arrive and then decide which rack. Since I'm not in a huge rush I think it's better not to hurry with this decision. BTW. I someone has experience with both racks please share it.
Also have you seen the PSU on Radial. It really looks crappy IMO.

Mateja

Thanks for the heads-up about the Radial PSU. No, I haven't seen it, and I can't seem to find a picture. Would you please tell me where you saw it?

No worries. You'll be amazed how the PSU looks like. Almost like a power adapter for the laptop. You can find those pictures on Sweetwater.

Thanks Mateja. Now I see why there doesn't seem to be a picture of it on the Radial site. Yet all the positive magazine reviews don't mention it. Strange? Maybe not.

So what is the deal with the radial power supply? Not much info out there.

I havent seen the radial PSU, i know it has a mid cord wart. putting PSU in the rack isn't the best idea in my view, if you have an open chassis 500 module next to it in the rack, you could potentially pick up noise. here's a pic of my 51x double PSU, its nice as hell, top quality shiizzit!

Thanx joey, naahh, i think i'll keep this bad boy, i'm not sure if anyone builds these for others? i know you can get the other capi stuff pre built? Maybe Jeff or Volker could chime in and let us know about that? I haven't thought about it, but i don't think I would be completely objected to throwing one of these together for someone for a small donation?? I rather enjoy the process honestly, but of course that would have to be approved by the 51x creators/providers! I'm not sure exactly who everyone is on that front, i know it's Volker(51xaudio/silentarts) and Jeff(jsteiger) here, but it's not my baby so... 8)
