The biggest difference between hear and the bigger forums is JK is still in the trenches writing producing and recording. The bigger forums have to bring in new mods because the forum becomes the job.

At "the other place" I have a long ignore list, it's the only way of making the place tolerable. There's so many obnoxious kids on there, trolling and trailing their coats (oddly the place is worse since the name change!) I don't go there very often anymore.
In very stark contrast this forum is like a favourite pub, full of genuine gentleman (and ladies?) who are emotionally mature, intelligent, cordial and knowledable.
Johnkenn does a superb job of keeping it that way - thank goodness.
There are so many dudes on the other site with insider discounts, hookups, promos etc promoting shit they would never buy.
Related: I feel like there's a logical explanation for all the shade thrown at Warm Audio. Pro Audio has a lot of cult of personality brands and with Bryce it's almost the opposite. So much resentment. They make useful goods at a reasonable cost and are constantly shit on.

That’s the main reason I started this place. You couldn’t get honest answers anymore. When I saw them deleting Steiger’s posts (or whatever it was) I was like screw this place.

For sure. They are resented by some other gear makers and their devotees. There’s also a few dudes who, seemingly, spend a lot of time patrolling for Warm threads so they can show up and copy/paste their anti-Warm screeds. I have to assume these dudes are either shilling for companies that Warm’s ethos disrupts or something.
I should actually add that to the rules: “threatening to leave without just leaving results in automatic ban” lol It’s the passive aggression that drives me nuts.

Oh - there’s an anti-warm sentiment on GS? I haven’t really been all that hyped on Warm stuff and as you can see…they don’t ever post here anymore. I’m probably missing out on some good products…I’ve always thought the 47 sounded pretty dang good.

Yeah, it’s cringey in a lot of Warm threads over there.

Similar to the philosophy, "The time to fire someone is when it first crosses your mind.".
Get going, then get good. Done > perfect. 99% out is 100% in

The 4 channel API pre is a great value. I honestly don't care between it and a real API for tracking drums. If anything the output trims on the Warm give it an edge.

It's definitely a thing there.
I've sadly been guilty of getting into some heated arguments over it. I don't currently own any stuff from Warm, but I have in the past and I've literally never heardapiece of Warm gear that I thought sounded outright terrible. It always sounds at least decent, and most of it actually sounds pretty fucking awesome considering the price.
It's kind of mind-blowing how they went from being one of the most respected bang-for-your-buck gear manufacturers to being compared to 90s Behringer.
I think there are some fair criticisms (namely QC issues and maybe a few pieces that were kind of mediocre) but for the most part, you can make records with this stuff.

It has for the last 30+ years amazed me how many love a piece of gear, the manufacturer the distributor, till they have to pay for it. Conversely I have not excepted a free piece in over 25 years because I like being able to speak my mind.

In jest my friend in jest I’m going to leave if you don’t say I am the most insightful and important poster!🤪

Reason number 1 is they’re clones but not really clones. They’re just cheap FET, opto, vca compressors, pres and binned OEM Chinese mics that use similar model numbers and controls to confuse people. The functionality and sound might not be there but they’re trying a lot harder than say Behringer is with Klark technics.
Art gets more of a pass than Warm because it’s cheaper and they’ve made some good stuff like the MPA II Gold and the Dual Limiter

Meh. I've used their take on the 47, the 3124, their 1176. I have also, in each case, used the real thing in a real studio as well. Warm has more than respectable value proposition. I suppose Bryce is laughing all the way to the bank, and I certainly don't see it as my role to defend or impugn any brand. What it does do, is shit up the discourse with what is essentially politics. Glad we don't do it much over here, and Dan I do appreciate your thoughtful response. I get it, but I'm annoyed by the needless repetition on other boards.

Yeah but so is KT and a couple of others, still better Copies than all the Behringer crap is/ was.

I'll beat you to it Chris : " performative hubris" - My girlfriend accuses me of that (at least if I had one she might - maybe that's why I lost the last one!)
Cheers, Ross

I've known Bryce since he had one little preamp available. Over time I got to try some of Warm's main products. They deliver good quality for the money. They were much better than most of what the less expensive gear makers had to offer at the time. Also, since day one they had unfailingly good customer service. That said, I prefer the higher end clones to the "in the style of" not really clones.
People can be very jealous of success. Bryce has built an amazing flagship studio at the Warm headquarters and knows how to run a business. He's also a very decent human being. Like any business, he's competitive, and losers rarely compliment the winners. I think for someone trying to jump up from their $99 mic and $150 interface to something better, Warm offers a reasonably big step up.
John has somehow managed to not let RGO turn into a shitshow, and it's quite an achievement considering the state of online discourse. He intervenes when manufacturers start pulling at each other's hair and addresses the assholes, giving them more than a fair chance to get their act together.
So John, ban away. I know you don't do that lightly or on a whim.
