I’m looking into building some 15”x15” rectangular traps like GIK’s soffit traps. I was all set to buy some Owens Corning R30 pink fluffy fiberglass rolls, but my local Home Depot and Lowes are out of stock. They do have plenty of R13 and R19 rolls.
A nearby Home Depot has Johns Manville R30 rolls in stock, for a little cheaper than what the Owens Corning would cost. Does anyone know if the Johns Manville insulation is comparable to the OC insulation? I couldn’t find GFR cut sheet numbers for the higher R-value JM products.
Do you think I should stick with R30, or should I look into the lower R-value OC insulation? The OC R30 rolls seem to be most commonly used for thicker traps like superchunks from my Internet searches.

Do they have Roxul Safe n Sound? My local lowes carries that and it works great. No experience with the John M.

Did you cut it into triangles or squares? One of the stores does have the 16” Safe ‘n’ Sound version. I was already planning on picking up 2 packs to make some 6” wall panels after this bass trap project. I could go with it for the corner traps too. I initially thought about using Safe ‘n’ Sound for the corner traps, but saw some forum posts and online calculators suggesting that Owens Corning R30 is a cheaper yet effective alternative at superchunk thicknesses.

I used them to fill some 12” thick homemade bass traps, approx 7’ tall and 3’ wide or so. They were in wood frames. I don’t remember how many bags I used but it was probably just 2 bags for four traps. Keep in mind Safe n sound isn’t as rigid as Owens Corning 703 or the like, so if you make super chunks you may need some internal framing to stabilize it. I don’t think you could stack triangles all the way to ceiling without it compressing and deforming, but idk.

I used Johns Mansville for my ceiling absorption. Worked fine.
however, if you're making traps.. Did Lowes have the rockwool batts from johns Manville? That's where I was getting mine.

Tbone81, I’m planning on stacking 3ft high and 4ft high traps to address deformation. svart, there are Home Depots around me only have fiberglass batts of Johns Manville. My Lowe’s restocks the Johns Manville products in December. Both stores have Rockwool (Safe ‘n’ Sound, ComfortBatt) batts and Owens Corning (Pink Fiberglas, Thermafiber) batts. I did find a Lowe’s with pink fluffy rolls that’s on the way to work. I might grab whichever I have access to at the time. I’ll try the fluffy stuff first for the front 2 corners first to see how much of a change it is over 2’ x 4’ x 4” 703 panels.
