New York City. Good luck with that. Keep your head on a swivel, stay in a group, and don't ride the subway.

I can see the city skyline from my street... it's a 30 minute drive... and I honestly can't find a reason to go this year.
Have you seen the exhibitor list? Its woefully small... and the show is on a Wednesday? Mid week? Kinda weird.
And yeah, the overall condition of the city including crime? The reward just doesn't seem to be there right now. Most everyone I've talked to feels about the same.
Hopefully I'm wrong but I have a mental image of empty aisles & tumbleweeds blowing through...

Um, I’m sorry for whatever happened to you in NYC, but it’s a great town and riding the subway is no big deal. Situational awareness in any city is certainly advised. AES on the other hand is full of legit sleazy characters. 😂

I do & have friends & family that live & work in the city... I see & hear the stories daily. Its not safe these days... people are getting shot in broad daylight in Times Square... people with severe mental problems? One tore up a McDonalds with an axe a couple weeks ago. Other people got attacked on the subway, hospitalized by the "green goblin gang" last week... a gang running around in day glo green leotards. We've even had mass shootings! Crime is so bad right? Walgreens & CVS are locking up cans of SPAM & ice cream... even toothpaste to try to combat theft. Right smack in the middle of downtown. I could pull a hundred stories like these... because it happens everyday now. nypost.com/2022/07/30/spam-goes-on-lockdown-due-to-inflation/nypost.com/2022/09/28/terrified-of-nyc-subway-attacks-locals-opt-for-citi-bikes/Sorry. That's enough of that, but if the last time you visited was pre-2020 lockdowns? It's a different place now. As a lifelong NY'r I'm shocked by the changes in such a short period of time. Now I'd love to attend the show and haven't skipped many since approx 1999 but the word round the campfire, people around here (locals) wonder if the 2019 AES show was the end of an era. And even that one was much smaller then years past, even though it was combined with NAB.

I'll keep my opinion of the NY Post to myself, and I haven't lived there for a long long time. When I did it was brief and glorious. My wife and kid were just there in July, and came back unscathed, but they're both tougher than all of us anyway.

I will be there WED and THURS. Posted opinions about NYC here seem off base. New York has always been edgy. Nothing new to this Chicagoan--Chicago murder capital of the world. I do a concealed carry with a Federally licensed Walther PPK James Bond pocket gun. No one's getting over on me, including double talkers at AES booths. I'm the new CHITOWN hard ass.

I live in Manhattan. It's fine. There were tons of tourists everywhere today blocking sidewalks and I couldn't figure out why the city was so busy. Pre-covid NYC was in a golden age. It's gotten worse - way more homeless everywhere - but it's not the warzone readers of the nypost apparently believe.

Wish I could come, but I just had to move again, after only six months in my new place, and that used up my spare cash for traveling.. Maybe next time.. sigh..

Ooooh if nyc gets bad enough, maybe the music scene will come back! I do love going to the AES shows, but they just get smaller and less interesting year after year. Skipping this one.

NYC resident here. I'm sorry to report that crime has quite not reached the levels of the glory days of the "Ford To City: DROP DEAD" era.
However, if crime continues to increase, tourism might decline. NYCers would be heartbroken! We love tourists, and we love giving them a warm welcome.

Since AES abandoned LA, I haven't really seen the need.... Isn't it funny how that happens? As soon as the trade show isn't in your backyard its no longer interesting? Oh wait this one is in my backyard..! I think overall, across most areas show attendance has dropped off a cliff. Read this on the Detroit Auto Show a couple weeks back and suddenly remembered AES... started looking for info because wow its less then a month away. And found very little. jalopnik.com/2022-naias-detroit-auto-show-depressing-ghost-town-1849545366I actually almost started a thread on AES NYC after reading that... thought about it... got kinda busy... obviously I didn't take action. And nobody else did until the show was a handful of days out. Says a lot? Maybe?

Isn't it funny how that happens? The only show that I've seen that is going strongas ever is SEMA in Vegas. Others - including NAMM - are a ghost of what they once were 10 years ago. I think NAMM currently suffers because even in the "healthy" years, it was a petrie dish of illness from all the asian companies mixing with euro companies mixing with the US companies. If you could do a week of exhibiting at NAMM in January Flu season and not get sick, you had an immune system par excellence. Plus, these days, the internet is just a few clicks away - and as far as product info in concerned - it really only comes down to seeing friends and making relationships at these shows.

NAMM was always a buyers show first and foremos t, The large dealers only went to see friends because the important reps were in house weekly and the rest at least once a month. The second tier started seeing reps more often and with COVID the little guys who always wrote their orders at NAMM learned how to use the net or found a distributor who gave them couple of extra points. those extra points were worth the ego hit and probably got them through COVID if they survived. The guys it hurt are the guys bringing new lines to the states, you know the latest Cheap guitar, or line array from china, will we really miss them? st

well this is a great software tool launch id say.
will be watching for more.
I know Merging's Anubis now has Sound ID built in that runs up to 9.1.6 surround so that's cool.

If you're planning on going this morning and don't already have a code there's a multi-hour line to get in! It's almost impossible to find where the line begins as it winds all over the lobby.
If you do have a code already don't wait in the line, find one of the people wandering around out front who can give you a wrist band.

Of course having AES at the same time in the same city as NAB has a lot of vendors going “ which show do we do we have one booth!”

Of course having AES at the same time in the same city as NAB has a lot of vendors going “ which show do we do we have one booth!” not really. They just combine the floor and it overlaps for 1 or 2 days. Least thats how they did it when i was last there. Kind of cool actually. Can spend 5 days there and go to both easily vs 3 for one.

That’s interesting and I am not sure if it’s a good or bad thing. While AES has always had a fair amount of broadcast representation, NAB is completely Broadcast centric and with the election ad spending I’m sure a fair number of manufacturers went all in on broadcast. The old school broadcast biggies ( Sony & Panasonic have direct sales to local TV stations, stories of recording guys goin to NAB and when the sales guy figured out he couldn’t make any $ he would hand out a card for his favorite rep at Broadcast Supply West. I even remember a local ITVA show where we were across from Sony and less than 10 miles from the event and the JVC guys were telling the guys not from TV stations to call B&H, including our own rep!
