That transient attack feels different to me than a Royer, but certainly it has a nice subdued top end. I like the piano example and the female vocal example in the Soundcloud playlist. Even the electric guitar example sounds nice to me.

The female vocal sounds terrific! I think I could hear what Paul G talks about here. Chris

Interesting very interesting. We are seeing a lot of action in the sub $900 FET market, great to see something that isn’t a 47 FET clone.

I saw an ad for that. Reminds me of the minimalistic Heiserman mics maybe.
I already have a 3U GZ251, so another c12 derived mic might be redundant.

Yeah when I was reading the post I expected the typical Soyuz LDC, Shapley lollipop, but that sort of cut off 47 FET look is very cool. Suprised to see custom metal work at this price.

I like the simplicity. Yeah when I was reading the post I expected the typical Soyuz LDC, Shapley lollipop, but that sort of cut off 47 FET look is very cool. Suprised to see custom metal work at this price. I'm glad it isn't more of the cream and gold. I'd still (eventually) buy one of the other models, but I do think they are FUGLY.

I like their fugly looks though. But this is coming from someone who thinks Pugs are "ugly cute". Chris

For the discriminating gentleman who has everything but taste? Wasn’t that the unofficial slogan for the Lincoln Blackwood Pickup truck? Either that or the Ecalade things . . . but I can't judge on the taste part, I drive a Ford Flex with 129,000 miles on it that costs me $100 a month on average. So guess who's laughing now? LOL

The Soyuz design of their LDC's is definitely not the utilitarian style of say.. a U47. I can understand how some might see it as being baroque. But like refined and expensive jewelry, once you see one and feel it, you realize this is just top of the line quality taken to the extreme, where beauty plays a part too. They didn't skimp on build quality or parts quality and the design was given the same attention. It's kind of like comparing a tank of an SUV to a Maybach, both get you there, just in a different style. To each their own of course. I like both.
I have a theory that things created with the most love pass the test of time and often lead to greater success. Think on major brands like Tiffany or Mercedes, the original creator/owner was obviously dedicated to making the finest thing they could possibly make, with little or no compromises. Their vision was so powerful that their brands represent some of the finest quality things possible for a human to create. To me, beauty has value, even if not necessarily practical.
Also, the Soyuz designs stands out within the crowd of copycats, giving it attention that might otherwise have eluded them.

I'd love to hear more about the Soyuz 1973 when you've spent some time with it Jdaw5. Perhaps you can post a few sound files? *it's not like the style of the Soyuz is unprecedented, they just made it lux.

Love my Bomblet. The 1973 sounds great. Will have to put it on the list!

I think the Bomblet look cool in chrome and the distressed grey version. It's the gold and cream that I think is just awful. It just reminds me of that old commercial where the older lady is showing off all here 'treasures' in her home and they are just the tackiest things ever.

Perhaps they'll come out with an alternative finish for the 0-17 somewhere down the road. This way those who don't like the current style can still buy the mic without cringing. They've done this on some of their models, the 1973 included. One thing though, when it's right in front of you it just seems very high end, not as gaudy as photos suggest.

Didn’t I see a “blackout” version of the 017 Series at some point?

Cool looks. I still can't wrap my head around a noise spec of 18dB in a FET LDC...

If a Source is close mic'd, at normal speech level (or louder)...
That ought to be fine. (Right?) Chris

Yeah....but...from a design/engineering perspecive...WTF??!
Is there some kind of super-awesome saturation that is happening that is part of that noise spec?
Because, otherwise, I just don't get it.

Not your aesthetic.
