From Slate Facebook...
I fell in love with music production the moment I stepped into a recording studio. I was in New Jersey, and I was 15 years old. I remember being in awe of the large analog console, the racks of gear, and the reel to reel tape machine. I watched intensely as Kirk, the head engineer, placed microphones on my favorite instrument, the drums. . I never wanted to leave. . That was the moment I embarked on a journey that led me to co-founding the music production brand, Slate Digital. . Slate Digital began by attempting to solve a problem: How can we make things louder without compromising the sound? From that question, FG-X was born, becoming a staple in mastering chains around the globe. . We soon began solving more problems for music creators. We made digital models of some of the best analog studio gear resulting in products like the Virtual Console Collection. Then we brought the sound of the most famous microphones on earth to everyone with the Virtual Microphone System. . The goal always remained the same: empower music creators to make their art with more ease, creativity, and without a large financial burden. . Today with the All Access Pass, Slate Digital provides a comprehensive music production solution with tools for every genre of music creator. . The success of Slate Digital does not live with any single person. It is the result of a dedicated, passionate, and skilled group of amazing people. New leaders at the company are continuing to innovate. They’re already busy designing groundbreaking products that will guide the brand into the future. . It’s therefore with great pride that I announce that Slate Digital is now part of Audiotonix, joining such legendary audio brands as Solid State Logic, Allen & Heath, and DiGiCo. I wanted Slate Digital to join a company that would put the customer at the center of everything we do. A company that believed in the future of Slate Digital and would add incredible new products to the All Access Pass. A company that would retain our independent spirit and history of innovation. Audiotonix hits the mark on everything. There are so many exciting things to come, and I could not be more thrilled. . As I pass the reins to new leaders at Slate Digital, I will remain as CEO at my other company, Steven Slate Audio, which will continue to focus on our current product lineup consisting of VSX, Steven Slate Drums, Trigger, and Raven. . I’d like to thank the Slate Digital team for being an incredible group of talented professionals. I am honored that they have committed their time to make Slate Digital what it is, and what it’s about to become. . - Steven Slate

I repeat my endorsement of Slate's VSX headphone and software. It's useful and pleasurable.
As an old timer, I would love it if Slate would offer some beloved and historic hi-fi speakers I might choose to listen for pleasure on. Like Acoustic Research AR-3a, KLH 6, Advent, JBL L100, Klipsch, Quad ESL, Magnapan, even Lafayette Criterion. Since Slate's process (I assume it's some kind of impulse response) includes the room, I think you'd get a good sense of every speaker's personality, like you do with the choices you get with VSX now.
Certainly guitar cabinet/speaker IR's have just about taken over electric guitar recording, at least for me, at home. They're that good.

Always wondered when Steven was going to cash out, he built the brand, hell he was the brand. It will be really interesting to see what he does when his non compete agreement runs out and if he will regret selling the name. Wait rather than Slate digital he will do the Rupert Neve thing and it will be Steven Slate !

I guess he still owns Steven Slate Audio, so he can still make hardware and software under his name.

I know there's been speculation that the SSL control surfaces would eventually control more than the SSL plugins. This might be the avenue they'll take with Slate.

Don't forget also that he had that dreadful flood a year or so ago that largely wiped out his recording studio, and has been attempting to play catch up ever since.
After a disaster like that I can fully understand this latest decision, especially in these fragile times.
EDIT: Whoops - no, that was Dirk at Brainworx wasn't it! No matter, these are still fragile times for any business.

Now we’ll see the Slate VMR parceled out for 35 bucks a pop. Same as the SSL Fusion plugs. 35 bucks * 5 so 175 parceled out over a couple of months so you don’t get any discounts. Audiotonix literally modeled the transistors, the transformers, the eq etc in different plug. I’ll pass. I have the Fuse plugins 😎
