Thats because 2500 for a freaking 500 serise module is down right criminal and probably barely sold any. Serpents SB4001 is 1200 and way more fun/way better features. Or practically any of the other dozen clones of that thing.
Im sure it's "different" but not 2x the cost different.

I wonder how it compares to the Smart C1LA? I have not heard the Serpent SB4001, but I love the Serpent Splice.

Maybe an AES announcement of a new version as achase4u pointed out above??? That's my guess too.

That's a great price! We love our 500 series SSL Bus Comp. Before we got it, we were using the Serpent SB4001 (which does have more features). The Serpent is great too and we still have and use it, but not too much on 2 bus anymore.

Or practically any of the other dozen clones of that thing. The other thing is about a year & change ago? SSL quietly moved production of the 500 series from the UK to China... raised the prices about the same time. That is a tempting deal and slickwater has the same $1299 price... hmmm... I'd suspect there's a giant pile of these in a warehouse they need to move & get off the books/plugging up supply chain. Seems to be the case with a number of things right now... Couple months ago for instance my dealer offered me 10% off a new Fender strat. Couple weeks later Fender themselves added another 10%... that's 20% off a brand spanking new Strat??! Nearly unheard of yes? To me that says nobody is buying. As for new versions at AES... maybe... but isn't AES kinda cancelled this year? As of a week ago there was still no exhibitor list to be found. Have pretty much crossed the show off my radar and its like, 30 minutes to the Javits center for me. But here we are two weeks out from a trade show with basically no information so yeah... good luck with that.

This is the same SSL who repackaged the alphalink converters with a diode clipper and called it the 4K circuit.

Anyway, good to have the info. I love my AS bus comp. I wouldn't mind another flavor. The dual mono of the Smart actually could be very nice.

They'll probably come out with a newer version that "borrows" some of the features offered on the Serpent SB-4001.
