I'm thinking of picking up a pair of CC8. Anyone here tried them, or the other AA offerings?

I regularly use OC818s in omni on leslies, rhodes, and guitars cabs. Love em there!

I demoed the OC18 for vocals. Very nice sounding mic...just a bit too much overlap with what I already have.

Their multi-pattern was sibilant on me, since my voice is so bright. But still IMHO amenable to de-essing. I'm just not very good at that.
If you're just close miking, the SE T2 is also very good. And more neutral. Chris P.S. In a lesser budget, the Warm WA-14 is nice.

Male vocals (mine). Not too bright at all, and no emphasis on sibilants*...and I've got some bite at 8k-10k. I found it to be much more balanced than I expected. The low cut options definitely come in handy for vocals as there are some lows in this mic. *I use a Coil CA-70S, which I believe you do as well. I follow mine with an AudioScape Opto.

I have the CC8s. So far I’ve only used them as choir mics for live sound, but I like them! Very neutral and faithful to the source, good stereo image, I could get them pretty loud without feedback, didn’t notice any weird off-axis tone.
I was also using a pair of 451s on that gig and I didn’t think they were very similar, despite the heritage connection. The 451s had a lot more top end, brash to the point that I was cutting heavily with a shelf to get a more natural sound out of them..
Keen to compare the CC8s with my OC mics on overheads but haven’t had a chance yet!

I'm always looking for alternative sounds for my vocals to a 47, SM7B or M88. I have a Blue Kiwi I like a lot but I'd like an a decent edge terminated C12 type capsule that I believe is in those AA 414 style mics. I really must get it together an organise a demo asap.

I had a friend bring over a 414XLII. I found the OC18 to be smoother and fuller.

Am trying to remember if you also have a Ribbon THT? Chris I have a AEA R92. It's great on vocals, but it doesn't fit with my current production goals. It lives on my guitar cabs :-) I also have an SE R1 I picked up NOS for next to nothing. It's a very pretty looking mic, really well made and actually has it's own unique thing going on recording guitar cabs or bright percussion (it needs a Cloudlifter) It's not great on vocals though - where as the R92 is really fab on vocals if you want that particular sound. Do you use a ribbon Chris on any of your vocal recordings?

Not yet. If/when I do... Would probably start with the Samar AL-95. NoHype/AEA/Sontronics Sigma/4038, are also temptations.
The Beesneez BU67 is such an excellent fit, that it looks next in line. Thanks, Chris
