Multi part, this is first video, interesting new build product parts choices: Interesting, at first when he was showing offf that active crossover kit ( not bad, but a Bryston 10B or for subs the JL audio kicks it’s ass) I wasn’t impressed for ATMOS the DSP is the best most tweak able solution, and I’m not a huge Hypex fan. Now The ATC $35 tweet, is a low estimate for what ATC uses in its affordable boxes and rejects are not put into that figure. I want to hear more about the drivers, the mid looks like a Car audio dome I have seen, but is not in the same league as VOLT or ATC. The thing is this: every time I have ever heard a well set up Music surround system based on all matching full range speakers with every thing tweaked, yeah in a good room it kicks ass. Even if you dive into tweaking the JBL LSR 3 ways with DSP and bunch of subs and use SAD configuration, yeah it will sound better than a stereo pair of ATC’s. Now the problem with almost every surround system other than the BOSE cubes is everybody uses something different for everything except L&R so panning anything other than l &R is like mixing on a left NS10 and Amphion right, it’s totally u predictable because your choices were based on a particular combo of Frequency, phase response and polar pattern! With Atmos I fear budget is what will make most systems suffer, even on the highend because most would rather an impressive L& R rather than matching good every where. Also good bass management is one of the least addressed factors in 99% of surround because most don’t know how to use it. If I had ATC $ I would have really looked at Lake DSP.

Interesting, I might run some models on there Diamond tweeter and be, I want to dig more o how their Be domes are constructed there are a couple of different methods. I personally prefer a nice big Cobalt or Alinco magnet but I can live with a good N/D. It’s going to hard to top The ATC and Volt 3in and I really would love to find a dome that can do what the Magnepan ribbon can do (every time I compare it to a dome the rep says I don’t play fair).
I know the Dayton RS stuff, good yes but ATC if you want ultra low distortion and to my ears Volt is still the best compromise. That’s where it gets trick, the Volt mid just meshes well with the Volt dome, if these mids were significantly cheaper I would be interested but with the drop in the pound and the fact that Solen usually has a pair in North America that would be hard to change.

Well, they wanted Volt , but the 6 months delay wasn’t part of their build model . Hard to believe atc, weren’t cutting it ! What a first world problem!

Well, they wanted Volt , but the 6 months delay wasn’t part of their build model . Hard to believe atc, weren’t cutting it ! What a first world problem! I think the cost of a matching ATC system was what killed that idea. I also think that unlike us mortals who buy Volt via distributors they tried to go direct with small quantities, that will put you at the back of the line. granted if they did build a 16 ch volt based system that would have probably been 30 pieces, but as a new company how many Atmos systems are you going to sell a year? One of the reasons a lot of speakers are so pricey is a small builder either buys I. Quantity and uses credit and whare house the drivers or buys through a distributor and pays a higher price. You also as a buyer have to understand that every distributor and manufacturers is going to have times when your going to be waiting for product, nobody produces every product all the time, so from any manufacturer there can be delays.

I presume they will retail these speakers: wonder how much for ? That’s why it’s dangerous to give away all this information. I see guys printing pictures figuring out the exact tuning with Winzip and free utilities. I think the end game here is to hit some kind number with there vendors. I don’t think guys like this understand that Oceanway monitors are the marketing for the Asian Consumer version and that the guy who bought Quested is going for the $$$$$$$ home theater market.

Well, as they say, ask 5 different audiophile their opinions and you'll get 10 different answers. (5 initial opinions and 5 new hedging opinions when they hear the opinions of each other.)
