In condenser world I’ve had luck with a U67’s and U87’s, which are great on other things so if you are someone who just needs a couple mics to record everything those aren’t bad options. Low price point would be an AKG 414-EB or ULS, Sony C38B, or Gefell UM70. Another surprise candidate would be a Groove Tube MD1.
Good luck in your search!

I saw elsewhere that Rob uses ONE mic - a 57 or a 160 - on combo amps. Maybe he will pop in and share. Seems good enough for me. Reminds me I still need some 160's.... They always seem out of stock.

It works really well on amps and drums. I’d rather use a tube amp for vocals.

A couple of reference notes…The TG Microphone was used on guitar on the recent Chili Peppers record and also was used for guitars on the last Lumineers album. Kevin Kadish has two solidly on guitar amps. The TG Mic in Sys ‘B’ with the PAD on can take a lot of heat from a source and still sound great.
Dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, ability to communicate is unstable.

At the Ryan Hewitt thing they did when it was first introduced, I thought it sounded great on EG amps.

use by itself or with a ribbon on Cabinets? What sort of question? Use whatever combo you feel you need. Of course any mic will capture just fine by itself.

use by itself or with a ribbon on Cabinets? Interesting question! And it does bring further questions with it. I came from the 57, 421 or 87 on a cabinet school of thought and then progressed to using a Royer or another ribbon on one speaker (usually the brightest)) and a 57 or 421 on another (neutral to dull). Then blending in the ribbon to phase-eq the sound of the dynamic. Nowadays, I find I get almost everything I need every time out of a 121 and might add a 57, 421 or LDC on another speaker jut in case I need it later in a mix. I would say the TG could work well in combination with a ribbon.
