Pair of these showed up today, while they are destined for PA land many will think UREI 809’s. That would not be far off, these are early PAS CXL 1280’s the EMILARs were replaced on later versions with the B&C DE45 that was everywhere in the 90’s. The emilars will be replaced by either the Radian 475 ( very much the son of the EMILARs) or the BMS one inch depending on listening sessions. Might even try the Radian with the Be Diaphragm, yeah a $600 hf on a $100 coax seams wrong, but we shall see. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Cool. You have a sonic preference amongst those generations?

Cool. You have a sonic preference amongst those generations? The EMILARs were great in their day, but the current crop of after market diaphragms just don’t cut it. The B&C was such a favorite because it was cheap and could handle plenty of power. The Stock Radian is probably going to mate the best from about 1.2K to 8K but The BMS has a kinder top end. I really like the Radian BE, except for a couple of spikes around 11K but the BSS minidrive can take care of them, very interested to see if the 48 dB per octave Neville Thiele filters work with all of them. I have 2 designs in the works, one is pretty straight forward just the coax, the second is a the coax plus the same LF section in the same box, but some one scooped up 3 of the non coax version for $40 each before I could. My gut is telling me it’s really going to come down to the real world phase performance on that little horn. Every different model I run is giving me completely different response, I’m really afraid I’m going to fall in love with the Radian BE on these. If anyone wants a fun small Coax there are 4 Radian 8 inch coax in stage wedges on Musicgoround same driver in fancy cabs with Esoteric x over components will run you $5K in the audiophile world these are $160ea!

So today another PAS arrived with a B&C D45 and a pair of New Diaphragms are going to be here by the endo of the day for this one and the DE45 I have laying around. Quick listen I like the D45 more than the Emilar needs less EQ from the Soundweb 9088ii that is replacing the Minidrive, but unless these new diaphragms are the end all the Radian’s are still my go to short of TAD and for the price of one TAD with a Radian diaphragm aluminum / titanium alloy with Mylar surround I can buy 2 Radian Be.
I consider these PAS to be great SR drivers but not quite Studio monitors with anything other than Be on the HF.
