Powair is not really a compressor. It's a soft knee digital maximizer and spreads out the functions in a typical digital "limiter": a leveler, an attack setting where most of it is too long for any usual limiter, a release, a transient shaper, an adaptive threshold, and a clipper all with a program dependent hold. It can sound pretty good but that mix doesn't.

Every time I see this thread title I think Power Compression and speakers and why would anyone want a plugin that mimics that!
Yeah I’m a geek.

Impressive tech.... cheers Wiz thanks wiz for linking this vid and getting me playing with it. the adaptive compression slider is where this really shines. the powair compressor is what it is, a soft knee limiter, but that is just crazy useful for applying a single envelope to all the drum hits. wow. also you can adjust the lufs integration time of the leveler in the hidden options to make it a crazy fast fader rider thanks, dan

Powair’s Adaptive Glue preset does the SSL bus thing better than SSL’s own Bus Compressor plugin. This is a good substitute for Cytomic’s the Glue with more aggressive leveling and less over-compression possible when you push the faders up thanks to the adaptive compression slider that ties the faster compressor threshold to the leveler threshold.
Since the range control for the leveler covers both downward compression and upward expansion unlike the omnipressor, if you don’t want swelling during quiet parts and can’t set the built in gate/thing high enough to prevent it without artifacts, just set the leveler a bit lower and push the faders up over it so it’s mostly compressing.

Haven’t watched the video, but isn’t this basically just the same idea as Waves MV2 for $29?

MV2 is an upward compressor and a downward compressor in a simple interface. I have to admit, I use the upward compressor part on every single vocal I've done for years. I suppose I could get close with some heavy handed parallel compression dialed in but MV2 works so easily. That's it's strength.
