Most of the responses were - I think - in response to my "cheapest 1073 in channel strip form" comment...because it was then a plethora of cheaper alternatives in 1073 form. Just to set the record straight, I was referring to a pre and EQ - Neve aesthetics and form and comparing to offerings from BAE, AMS, etc. I realize that the AML is a great pre. I've heard Sal's and I thought it was great. But this was a product announcement. I think I can safely say that jsteiger wouldn't appreciate it if people came in to his Heider thread and started saying The Warm TB12 500 is "just as good"...I decided to delete the responses - and I've already been told it was "the most gearslutz move ever." So - sorry if that pissed you guys off. But I think that's the right thing to do. If there's anything I've learned running this board, it's that you can't please everyone all the time. Feel free to start a thread about the AML - or anything else you'd like. BTW - Heritage is not an advertiser here. I sincerely hope they do - I could use the money...but once again, no one buys influence here, but you DO deserve and get respect when you post a product announcement. |

And btw - I have NOTHING against DIY. I have four DIY pieces. (all capi) But just for me - I LOVE the aesthetics of things. Someone posted (I'm paraphrasing) "If you just spend extra money for aesthetics then you're just stupid." Why is my opinion stupid? That annoys me. Really annoys me. Why do people buy Lexus'? A Kia will get you everywhere you want to go...Well, you know exactly why. I'm sure Jeff could build any compressor he wanted...but he owns a Fairchild and many others. He builds incredible aesthetically awesome API-style pres and EQ's, but he has an API board. So, you can have both. Sometimes it seems the DIY crowd can be a little fanatical it seems.

tough spot, you want to extend respect to the vendor, and the forum members right to speak freely and honestly about all things pertaining to said product, including the competition no?
Not trying to be provocative, it's a serious question, and a catch 22 right? The vendors have to have thick skin, and the forum members need to be honest and respectful, not always the easiest thing for everyone involved, if i remember correctly, the warmaudio rig DID come up on jeffs Heider launch thread, i as a super satisfied CAPI customer/fan, touted the brand in response using facts, and Jeff handled himself with his usual class.
I believe it was the Heider thread?

Well, in a thread dedicated to the launch of a specific product the vendor has spent time and money on to bring to the market, I find that disrespectful to the vendor. So if it did happen in Jeff's thread, I apologize and won't let it happen again. People can post any criticism of any product they want with a respectful tone and in the right place. In fact, I've done it myself. Look in the Aurora Audio thread - someone asked about experiences. I posted that they sounded fantastic but I personally had really bad customer service. I was very careful to point out it could've been an isolated experience. That could have been a perfect opportunity for the owner to come in and gain valuable brownie points. (I invited him but he told me to take a hike). Anyway - start a thread about the AML - Sal loves his, Cowboy loves his, etc. There's nothing to hide here. But there is a proper time and place for everything.

Why don't you make a subforum of just product announcements and make all posts in there be locked, so this won't happen again?
Also, this forum *is* GearSlutz. It's a bunch of gearslutz rejects who started a forum to do exactly what gearslutz was already doing, except everyone is from nashville. y'all can have a nice day. I'm out.

Gave Chuck what he wanted. You know, for the life of me...the internet continues to baffle me. People talk SO MUCH SHIT. Dude comes on this forum and talks shit to the guy running it and paying for it out of his pocket. Would that fly anywhere else? IMO, it's addition by subtraction.

I couldn't disagree more, the reason I prefer this forum (by a long shot) is because of the maturity and the overall "good vibe" of what goes on here. I'm from San Diego, I want to be from San Diego, it's beautiful here! Also, it's a real bummer what happened with Chuck , he is a very cool guy in real life, and an extreme talent, it's been said the internet sucks a bag of dicks, I agree, I guarantee if we all talked face to face, problems would be avoided simply from the clarity of spoken conversation as compared to snippet written paragraphs, and I believe our perceptions of each other would certainly be more accurate, and probably quite different?

Not sure why it's offensive to suggest other products in an announcement thread, especially when the announcement is a clone of a product. I do take exception to Matkat's comment, everyone here has a name with work to back up their opinion, something GS will never get right.

I would liken it to going in the "what are you working on" section, replying to a thread with someone's song posted and talking about how great another members song was. "You know, there are sooo many other songs out there that do this better..."

I dunno, I think if manufacturer's are going to be cloning products it's probably worth discussing. I personally wouldn't think to take offense to a scenario you suggested but I also would caution anyone on saying piece A is BETTER than piece B. Just different, or more cost effective. I didn't see the original thread so I have no idea, just seems very overblown to me.
