Finally ATC have listened and come out with an easy to integrate sub to make their 12's, 20's, 25's and 45's (even 50's) into a full (fuller) range monitor system. My Trinnov budget has left the building - this is going to be my next major purchase to add to my ATC 25's - it will take mixing and Mastering to a whole new level with the small ATC systems like my 25's - I'm really stoked by this release. atc.audio/2022/07/atc-launch-scs70-pro-and-scs70iw-pro-12-active-subwoofers/I've not hear it yet of course but I bet 25's with one of these will sound really stunning finally BIG bass to go along with all those insanely detailed mids!

It looks good probably sounds great, but Billy’s obsession with low distortion still means the Questeds go lower! I would probably love them with 20’s but a pair would kill my wallet, eh maybe the kid will skip college.

This looks awesome but I wonder if I'd realistically hear much of a difference compared to my Subwoofer Pros 12". That already feels like a solid extension of the 20's.

Very different beast, the Subwoofer pro is Based on the same principle as Bag Ends ELF/ Infrasub goes down to about 18hz the power provided by a pretty standard plate amp. This is a more typical ATC low distortion driver going down to about 32HZ using a ATC MOSFET. I did think the Subwoofer pro sounded pretty good with the 20’s, but I also really like the SVS 3000’s a pair of them, plus the DSP can solve some room issues.

I have two sons going to university - one already there and one going next year, so even one sub stretches the budget. I don’t have the space for two, locating one alone is going to be a challenge. Hopefully as I’m using 25’s one sub will be enough to get a really big sound, I’m into ATC’s obsession with low distortion as for me that translates into minimum aural fatigue when working for long hours.

Interested in this also. Would appreciate hearing from you again if you decide to go for it. I’m going to put a deposit down and order one at the end of the week, I just spoke to my pro audio dealer regarding lead times. I’ll definitely let you have some feedback.

Hey, little off topic, but can anyone here speak to the differences between the scm20ASL mkii and the scm25a? I'm on the fence trying to decide between the two, my initial thoughts were to go with the 25s for the "more substantial" bass response, but the idea of having the sealed 20s with the new ATC sub is really intriguing. I'd probably wait a while to get the sub to accompany the 20s, so I planned on using them by themselves for while. I've heard people say the 20s have usable information down to 35hz because of the shallow roll off on the sealed cabinet, and I'm not looking for a speaker to impress clients or "bump," my foremost consideration is to find the best mixing tool for translation. If you all who have experience with both the 20 and the 25, or either, could speak to their strengths, and also in your experience, where you find the limit for usable information in the low end, that would be really helpful. I do make techno music, and I mix music for other people that has prominent low end, do the 20s offer substantial low end information in order to work with modern bass heavy music? Also, would you recommend either over the other for use in a less than ideal room? Planning on picking up a pair of the new Audeze MM headphones to check low end, if that factors into your less-than-ideal room specific reccomendation. I'm coming from Adam A7x, so either will be a huge upgrade, in my current room the Adams seem to become faintly audible at 43hz, and then prominent at 64hz, which I assume is from the porting. People talk a lot about these speakers being "bass light" but I would love to get some confirmation that I will have at least the same low end extension that I am currently working with. The Adams are artificially bloated, and rather loose and undefined in the bottom end, but they have served me well for almost a decade.

IME, if your room is small with obvious node points then no amount of money spent on the speaker is going to fix your bottom end bricknine9. As much as you probably don't wish to hear it, some pro help with reference to your room dimensions is really the way to go. If the headphones help with the bottom, then again IME, you'll find yourself gravitating to them much more than the speakers which kind of defeats the purpose of spending large on the speakers; you could stay with the Adams for now. The pricey speakers could well p... you off with the room even more. ( I bought the focal Clear pro cans for exactly your reason - anybody like to buy them off me at a great price? - I've spent in the wrong area!)
Just my $.02
Cheers, Ross

The Adams are artificially bloated, and rather loose and undefined in the bottom end, but they have served me well for almost a decade. My thoughts are based on someone having a properly treated room - as Ross points out - that's an essential first thing to sort out when it comes to monitoring. I always planned on getting 20’s and a sub. Then I heard the 25’s and realised the ATC marquee is built around their incredible mid driver. The detail and sheer audio resolution on offer with a the ATC mid driver for me is the ATC signature sound. For me it’s like "X Ray vision" into a mix and that mid driver will scream at you if a mix is even slightly out of balance - the 25’s are brutally honest - so much information about a mix is covered by that mid driver. The grafted on mid dome of the 20's is good of course, ATC don't make any rubbish drivers, but to my ears it doesn't come close to an ATC 3 way system. So I think if your getting into ATC you’ve missed a great opportunity if you don’t get into there three way driver systems - the first in that category being the 25’s ATC now offer a matching sub for the 25’s which imho will make this 2.1 system into one heck of a full bandwidth monitoring system ideal for any genre and style of music! That said the 20’s or even 12’s and this sub are also going to sound really impressive. Yes, the 20’s have the latest ATC tweeter over the 25’s but still, imho I think the stretch to the 25’s to get into an ATC 3 way monitor with their awesome mid driver is well worth it. Also, the sealed infinite baffle 20’s over the ported 25’s is a red herring imho. The 25’s port isn’t to increase bass but to balance the performance of the bass driver and in no way causes any over hang or loss of fast transient information - the bass on the 25’s is fast, articulate and tight. I think people think the bass on the 25's is light because like all ATC drivers it has ultra low distortion - but they definitely have enough bass to mix once you get used to the clarity of the bass they deliver. That said the bass driver on the 25's is 6.5" so we're not talking about extended bass here like a pair of 150's (which are absolutely incredible top to bottom) so I think that's why ATC have developd this new SCS70 sub (which also have ultra low distortion) to give the 12's 20's 25's 45's even the 50's the missing octaves low down. It's all about money when it comes to ATC! The more you spend the less and less compromise you deal with until at the 150's you're so blown away you cannot imagine anything better!! All that said - and now I'll contradict myself :-) My advice, if the budget is 20's and the new SCS70 sub or only 25's with no sub then given your genre of music making I'd forgo the mid driver and go for the BIG bottom end as you will probably find the 25's feel a bit bass light for making techno music If you can stretch then the 25's and the new sub will get you knocking on the door of the performance of the big ATC systems as the ATC mid driver is truly incredible imho and in my studio essential for the music I make which is singer songwriter vibe stuff (Sting, Peter Gabriel, Beatles kinda vibe) with heaps of real instruments and lot's of vocals - lot's and lot's of mid range information to track and mix. And finally, as good as my room is treatment wise, I still throw on a pair of Sennheiser HD600's as another reference to check the bottom end minus my room :-) Let us know which you go for.

You know you gotta hand it to ATC they're not pushing gear on people just to get sales.
I phoned ATC today to ask a couple of technical questions about the new sub and the ATC chap on the phone asked me about my room dimensions and the placement of my 25's.
Then he said (to my surprise) he didn't think I needed SCS70 sub and that it will likely over excite the room and ruin the currently controlled bass I do have.
If I stand in the corners of my room or walk it's length there's no bass build up in the corners and there's no obvious null as you walk the room (thank you GIK acoustics)
Listening to my fav albums I have to admit the 25's are producing plenty of articulate bass and don't feel at all bass light.
ATC recommended a demo first before any purchase as there's a strong chance the sub will be OTT and completely unnecessary.
I'm coming to the conclusion I don't need anything else, not a sub nor a Trinnov. My room is very, very good as it is, and the translation of my mixes is always spot on.
I can actually not spend money and save it instead - now there's an idea!!
(I should add of course I don't produce any forms of dance music or electronic music - so maybe those genres need a sub to get the full on club experience for mixes?)
