Since UA is having their mid year sale...I have been looking into LUNA over the last week.
I use LOGIC and have for god knows how many years.
Well after rolling up my sleeves and digging into LUNA I have pretty well been converted. Nearly 100%.
Biggest issue for me is, tracking electric guitars with 3rd Party Amp sims, eg Amplitube.
It looks like its just a big no go, due to latency.
Anyone doing this? I can't see a work around, other than using a place holder with one of UA's amp sims... which I don't want to do.
I think most likely I will track in LOGIC basics, Drums (Superior Drummer 3 being driven by Logics Drummer) Bass, Electric Guitar parts, then just import that into LUNA.
I was super impressed with LUNA firstly by the sound, and equal first the work flow.
I love the way the clip gain, TAPE, Summing works... it sounds really great and is a piece of piss to use. (Aussie slang for exceptionally easy....8).......)
The only other issue I see, is the render meter (which is how much CPU its using) mine seems to sit around 70% and is yellow (Green best, Red bad).
I am running a M1 Mac mini with 8GB, which is under spec as far as memory, but LUNA isn't using much, so I don't believe that to be the issue...searching the UA forum and google, on the subject leads me to believe its related to Display issues, more than anything else, most likely because its early in LUNA's development.
I am able to use my Bricasti M7 which was the big stumbling block last time I tried it, using the return from the Bricasti, to an audio track, selecting input monitoring and ARM for that track, and the latency is compensated.
So, I took advantage of the UA sale, and bought API and Neve Summing (API Being my fave atm) and a couple of other plugs as well.
Oh, the other thing is LUNA doesn't really come with any plugs like a Tuner, Metering Plug in (Loudness etc) which sort of caught me off guard as I am used to LOGIC really having everything... but I have TRACKS 5 metering and it works well.
OH yeah, LUNAs Quantize Audio sounds really really great.
cheers

Great to hear your thoughts Wiz; when I buy a new computer I will change to some DAW away from Protools and am interested in luna , sadly i'd have to buy an Apollo of some description which is money I'm not keen to shell out particularly as i have a Prism Titan. Decisions, decisions Cheers, Ross

I think there are two camps: those who try Luna and are immediately sold on the sound, appreciate the current features but recognize it is a young DAW, the other camp: don’t care to learn another, not full featured daw, buy into the uauniverse, and have all sessions tethered to an Apollo.
To each their own .

I was able to get around my tracking with Amplitube issue...
I simply set up the track to record in LUNA, without any plugs, so I am just recording the DI signal from the channel 1 Hi Z input, mute that channel.
Open Amplitube 5 Standalone, set its input to Apollo 8 Hi Z 1, and its output to Apollo MON 1 and MON 2... and then go back to Luna and hit record...
worked like a charm.
cheers

Software with a proprietary hardware? Big no for me. Just no. Whilst I find it amusing to drop into a thread to tell me you won't use it... 8).... Hasn't PRO TOOLS been doing this all along? Also, I think of these things like this....its not forever... its for now. Its like buying anything, you buy it to use it.. if it suits you great.... I chose the Apollo before Luna came out (IIRC) I see no issue in using proprietary linked stuff, if it works. cheers Wiz

I am finding the transition, better than I expected... slowly learning the key commands, and actually I have enough at the moment to do what I 95% of the time need to do...
I haven't done any comping yet, but I think that's where I will miss logic... I watched a couple of videos, and see how to do it.
I never used PROTOOLS in anger, and this seems to be a lot like its PLAYLIST thing.
Its still early days.. and hell, I could end up back in logic.. but I am enjoying playing around with it.
cheers

I like LUNA and maybe I'll switch once they give us the ability to open sessions without having the Apollo interface connected. A "mix/edit" mode, even if that means losing the recording capabilities.

Right now there’s not really a comping feature. But the audio quantity is the easiest and best available. I actually started a song in Luna and just couldn’t get it gelling right. Started over in Pro Tools and it was a lot better. I’m not sure what the deal was - but it was to do with Superior. Just couldn’t get it sounding right.

The more I use this, the more I am digging it.
I am actually remixing everything in LUNA for the upcoming album....
Now, probably not everyones cup of tea.. depending on what you do.. but for me, its approach is just sounding great.
I am getting around in it better each day....
The sound is the main thing though, the use of the tape plug ins, and summing, is just sounding great.
happy camper

I'm still not interested until it does most everything I can do in Logic.
I'd love to try the summing thing though, just to compare.

Been using LUNA (came from Logic) since it came out and exclusively now for over 18 months.
Neve/API summing plus tape plus API Console gets me very quickly to something that “sounds like a record”
I also love the simplicity of getting a whole project and bringing it up or down a couple of half steps to quickly find the right key and also speed up or slow down to get the right groove for a song. This being so simple and sounding so great means you will actually try stuff … a great preproduction tool. This was such a hassle in Logic
Exporting mixes and stems in the same pass is also very well done in LUNA.
Still hoping for some proper comping and analog insert capability but as it stands very happy.

Long time Cubase user, I took the Luna plunge few months back and really enjoy the sound and workflow. However, still a few key things missing for me and quirks.
Strangely enough, I now decided to start songs in Logic...then move over to Luna for overdubs and mixing. Will see how that goes.
A big one for me is the Logic auto-tempo map feature and Varispeed.
