Yes. Just make sure the seat pan has no cracks anywhere around where it mounts to the main frame. Used ones might have cracks and break around there if people aggressively bounce on them or sit down hard over time.

Yes. I don't have to worry about wearing out a cheap chair every couple of years so for me it's worth the investment.

I picked up a refurbished Aeron for about $500 recently. I like it. It's a nice chair.

Worth every penny if it fits you, wife can’t stand well ( sit) in my large for any extended time, I hate her small.. Look at what options it has, and remember they do have them with legs like a waiting room chair ( only know this because I know a guy who thought he was buying the desk chair got the one without wheels because it’s an Aeron right?).

I was recently in the market for some kind of refurb - 'good quality chair' to replace my ancient IKEA desk chair. I went online to shop reseller/refurbers such as Crandall Office Furniture, BTOD, Madison Seating (EBAY).
They all seem to sell Aeron, and Steelcase chairs at big discounts. However, the quality of their 'New - or 'Openen Box' refurbs seems to be questionable - particularly Madison Seating (Better Business Bureau review) I decided on buying a Steelcase Amia chair refurb from Crandall Ofifice Furniture. ($436 inc. tax shipping).
Ii arrived yesterday. Seems good. I've never sat in a Aeron chair.
(I just checked Crandall for Aeron chairs - they only sell Steelcase. BTOD is selling refurb Aeron for $719. Madison Seating on Ebay 'open box' Aeron - $574.)
So - $500 seems a good price for used Aeron - depending on condition.

You have to be careful with farts in these “open air” chairs.

Yes. I have two; one I bought new 10 - 12 years ago (which still looks like new), and a refurb I bought last year. It looked new and if I didn't know it was a refurb, I would have thought it was brand new. They're great chairs all around. Enjoy!

I sat in one of these once and thought - yessss this is comfortable.
But .... do they make a model you can remove the arms because my current chair has no arms which makes it great for playing guitar/bass whilst sat in front of my keyboard and mix gear?

I did an extensive search 3-4 years ago for a great chair to assist with my back problems for my day-job, which is work from home. I ended up purchasing a Steelcase Leap from officedesigns.com. They carry all of the top brands, are very competitive, free shipping and free returns on chairs under $1,500, and due to their volume typically have a number of returned chairs they sell at a discount. (They have a large Amazon presence as well.) And for Johnkenn, they moved their headquarters from Chicago to Chatanooga, so relatively close to you. In Chicago they had a nice showroom with lots of chairs, so I was able pop in during a business trip and try a bunch out...really helpful. I worked with the main guy. They do, just have to make sure it’s the one you are looking at.

Yes! Best investment I made in my studio. You should be able to find one with at least new arm rests and maybe a spare cylinder for that.

But .... do they make a model you can remove the arms because my current chair has no arms which makes it great for playing guitar/bass whilst sat in front of my keyboard and mix gear? What I did on mine, was reversing the upper part of the right hand armrest. It makes space for the tail end of a guitar / bass, but still gives you some support while sitting. Looks a bit weird, but hey! It is a working chair. Additional tip: The Aeron comes in 3 sizes; A, B and C, so if you're a lot above or below average, you might be happier with one of the outer ones. Also a thing to be aware of in the 2nd hand market. And finally: You'll find new seat foams, wheels, and other parts on eBay or the online shop, so no need for sticking with worn out bits.
